Well I can’t say I knew really what was going on (having not watched the show for a good 20 years I reckon) but I did actually enjoy that, even though it was outrageously contrived and fairly choppily edited (IMO). And they all lived happily ever after I suppose.

Having not watched for at least 15 years, I hardly recognised most of the returnees, but the last 5 minutes was a nice send-off - brought to mind the end of the final episode of The Bill.

Was there never a longer version of the original theme? I thought for a moment we were going to get it a third time before it turned into the medley on the titles.

It was perfectly done.  The quartet of Annie Jones, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue brought back so many memories.  Susan's monologue was perfect "Those who watched us from afar."

The finale was great, felt like a celebration of the show and tying up some things, but also felt open which is kind of nice, like their lives are continuing we just won't be seeing them anymore. (And leaving it open in case, if someone splashes some cash?) Some of the ads were interesting touches like "Hey you like Neighbours? Come to Australia!" and the My5 one where they are promoting their Australian dramas.

Have to admit the scene with Beth and Flick was better than the scene with Kylie and Jason. I am trying to work out where that was filmed, looked like Holland Park but not 100%.

Guessing that was a C5 thing (they've done it before in special eps) - only one I heard in the Ten screening was the inevitable Especially for You.   They managed to avoid "Suddenly" for the wedding and didn't even give "One Good Reason" a final blast.

I think those tracks have featured in the last few years, maybe not necessary to bring them back for the final.

Has Especially for You been used in the show before? Would have preferred Suddenly for their return in the car. I've never been to Cuba was my favourite background music back in the day but that was a very specific era.

Funny that the Coffee Shop didn't feature - internally anyway -in the final ep 

I did note that Theresa's legal papers were addressed to T Oliver - I'm assuming a nod to the actor who played Lou.

The book scene/wedding prep had Harry Styles in the UK but a different track in Aus, and same with George Ezra and the wedding scene too. We're quite fortunate in the UK that deals are in place which make the use of commercial music far easier.

Was going to say I wonder if this is one of the only episodes to not get a repeat showing but looks like it's on tomorrow afternoon at 3.30 on the main channel but nothing more on 5star (had they dropped the repeats in recent years anyway?)

I'm guessing there may be a couple of instances in the BBC days where one in the afternoon went out but not in the evening (or vice versa) because of breaking news potentially? Did the 5.35 one air on Sept 11th?

It was very well done, and although I haven't watched for a long time it is sad it's no longer in the schedule.

I wonder how far off we are from a British soap coming to an end and how such an event would be handled.

I think the 5Star repeats were dropped when C5 moved it to 6pm. Surprising really they didn't use it to maintain the 5.30pm slot.

Just watching through again and we also got a different final scene after the credits. Ours was a relatively empty street with a few of the cast waving to us whilst Ten have a packed street waving us off.


As for the next soap to go - most people seem to agree Hollyoaks is vulnerable looking at both the ratings and the quality of the show at the moment, but then every soap has been in that position more than once over the last few decades so who knows. Emmerdale and Corrie though feel the most safe.

What a way to end the show.
I’ve enjoyed watching the episodes from the last couple of weeks and surprised myself when I explained both the Izzy & Mal situation and how Amy fitted in to Ramsay Street to my sister; Some of the names from the 90s/early 00s clearly came out of a well con sealed memory vault! It bought back so many memories of childhood and growing up in my family home with many who are no longer with us; the 5:35 edition of the programme was always on the kitchen TV as we prepared or ate tea/dinner/evening meal (depending on your area).

I’ve like the way that they have nicely woven older characters into the storylines, especially ones that I wasn’t aware of from the early years of the soap.

I’m glad that the final monologue went to Susan, despite only arriving in the 90s, Karl & Susan became the main stayers as neighbours arrived, left and sometimes returned around them. The words were beautiful, summing up Ramsay Street, the characters and our feelings of the show bowing out after 37 years.

With production starting in the year I was born, I feel that Neighbours has always been there, and it’s demise has made me reflect on my past a little. Things may dramatically change through our lives, many people come in to them, experiences happen, and loved ones are lost, but our memories remain as do the impacts of our interactions with friends and family.

To all those who acted, wrote and produced the programme, thank you all, and I the most recent cast and crew well in their next projects.


EDIT: One of my favourite lines of the finale was when Mike was showing his daughter Sam Ramsay Street for her to say ‘it’s not a street, it’s a court’, it now makes me wonder why they called it Ramsay Street in the first place!
