You absolutely do not need permission from every single user.

You are transferring assets, just as you would if selling a business. Businesses do not need the personal permission of every customer they hold data on in order to sell the business to someone else.

There is best practice to be followed - but it is routine and absolutely possible.

As I mentioned earlier, when people sign up to a forum they do not sign anything that says the forum owner cannot transfer the forum to a new owner at a later date.

You're quite right, Scrotnig. GDPR is tricky but its purpose is not to stop businesses buying and selling data assets to each other.

That's not how it works. If I go around my neighbourhood doing a survey which involves collecting PID, I cannot simply sell that data on - the absense of a promise I won't does not equate to a legal ability to do whatever I want.

Are you certain? The existence of B2C data owners and list brokers seems to contradict that. If I wanted to, I could purchase millions of consumer leads to pitch them life insurance.

Quite certain. Consumer data sold on this basis is either being traded illegally or is sourced from origin datasources where the user has specifically granted permission for their information to be shared/sold 'with partners' (or whatever).

I worked in the insurance industry at the time GDPR came about, a lot of what we did - which was a lot less clearly within scope as straight-forward data trading - had to change in order to be compliant.

I am not selling the site. Once it closes, it will simply become a read-only archive like TVF is.

I had an offer from someone to buy the site yesterday, but I refused as I didn't want the hassle.

Even if Rob did sell the site, they couldn't continue to call it TV Live Forum as TV Live itself is owned by Rob.

I've decided to close the forum earlier than advertised. I've had enough of it now. Still getting hassle from certain people, and I can't take much more.

Just an update: My poll will stay up but as the forum is closing earlier now there is a high chance at launch there will be an ad.

I am an experienced forum admin of 20 years standing. If I had the time I would do it gladly but I absolutely do not, I can barely fit in what I do now.

My advice to whoever's site wins out in the end it avoid phpBB. I've operated forums on that software before.... and ended up in my local paper after it was was hacked by Russian bots that posted a bunch of 'saucy' pictures. I never did resolve the spam problem on that software.

Certainly MyBB is the way to go. Although its development has slowed in terms of a new 2.x version, it's still a reliable piece of kit, and as mentioned before there are plenty of extensions you can add (the vast majority are free to use) and although most themes aren't responsive, there are a few that can, like I did for something in the past.

Personally, whilst paid options for forum software exist such as Invision, XenForo, vBulletin etc, there's no point paying for their licenses until your board is regularly active and actually warrants paid software. Might as well keep things simple and just use what Rob used, for whatever is going to get used as the replacement for here.

Rob, I hope things get better for you in the future and once you have shut this place down I'm sure a huge weight will come off you. Thank you for your time in giving people a place to talk about this stuff, even if it was for a short time.

Probably what I am going to say could be dismissed immediately, but given that this forum is linked to Metropol, and since Metropol has already a subsection dedicated to radio.......wouldn't be that far fetched to say that maybe the easiest solution is to create a new subsection on Metropol dedicated to TV Pres stuff? Just a thought that has come to mind, I think it's worth a try

I'm even angrier now. These people, having succeeded in breaking somebody, still won't let up. It makes me despair.

I don't post on Metropol as it has a very nasty undercurrent, which I've been on the receiving end of.  If Metropol takes over, you lose me.
