Yes, it's one of those things I look at and it turns me into a technophobe, though ironically it kind of looks very old school rather than of the TikTok generation.

Well, here it is. My new forum TV Talk.
If member don't mind for now just starting discussion anywhere, so I can test everything out before the proper launch when TVLF closes. As I have also previously mentioned, the site currently runs off Wix but I hope soon to be able to move it onto a proper forum software.

I don't want to appear ungrateful lepeterr but, for a forum full of people interested in design and brand expression, the website looks awful. I appreciate you've just put it up but do you have plans to change it to look something like TVF or TVLF?

I would struggle to post on that site personally because of the way it looks. Sorry, I know how that sounds and I mean no disrespect but I started a thread on TVLF not so long ago about how I struggle to watch channels with poor pres.

I wonder if the Australian TV forum Media Spy would consider opening a UK section. It is more TV programme heavy that here but there's plenty of presentation and news chat so there's a reasonable amount of crossover.

No worries, yes I will be improving the design very soon. Today I was just seeing if the forum actually worked! Which it did, but yes I will be updating the design very soon.

Will be sad to see the forum close. 

I remember joining the original TV Live forum from way back when the website first launched.  

I can only echo what other have said in that you have to put your health first. As for the forum would it not be possible to hand over the reins of this forum to someone else rather then closing it completely? 

Having migrated from TV forum then to here I don’t think I’ll be joining a 3rd.

In the past year I’ve had an offline experience where - despite many attempts to make it work, to fix things - I’ve had to all but remove some people from my life because they drained me, were inauthentic people and were having an unhealthy effect on me and my well-being. Looking back, it’s strange that it took me so long to realise and to stop blaming myself for feeling that way.

This is to say that I understand it, I can imagine the unburdening you must feel, Rob, and that this is surely the right thing for you.

That said, I’m sad about what that outcome means for me and for us. To be honest, I doubt I’ll transition somewhere else again, not least because there seems to be no single direction of travel this time.

I will miss many posters here - people like Brekkie, VMPhil, Inspector Sands, many others whose usernames I am struggling to recall right now but as soon as I see them I know I will enjoy their posts. This has been a great place, along with TV Forum, so it’s all quite bittersweet for me.

I was wondering similar about Discord but never really got my head around it.

It's come on quite a bit now since a couple of years ago. You can have threaded discussions [just like a forum] and they're actually testing a channel type called "Forums", which would effectively create a forum-structure, where all you can create are threads. The new Forum channels feature is not publicly available for everyone to use, but its a really great feature and in the interim, normal channels can be made to look like a forum, even when it isn't. Overall, Discord is more of a live "platform", so the idea is more about continual chat but things are preserved for longer unless the server or channels are deleted.

I wonder if it would be better for a Discord server to be set up, rather than registering endless new forums: as said, new forums are liable to splinter the community. The problem with that, is that forums or the hosts they're on, are more susceptible to hack attempts which may leak personal data. Discord is very much less likely to result in a loss of personal data from a platform hack, although you just have to be careful of malicious users trying to do scams.

If anyone would want a Discord, I don't mind setting one up and getting people in there, where we can plan out what we would want. I took Rob's point on that setting up a forum can be very daunting and people should be careful about them, but a discord server is basically free and no one can find out personal information about others like you can on a forum board such as this. A forum, on the other hand, can incur significant financial cost (mainly for a domain name and the hosting package) and in the current era of rapid discussions, forum boards like this are sometimes harder to keep going, especially on niche topics.
