Neighbours ends

Though a lot of pre-2000s SD transfers of film material are pretty awful. The original versions of Cheers looked for example are terrible (even compared to other shot on film, edited on NTSC video shows of the era), even the SD downscales on the DVDs of the remasters look hugely better than the originals- on the occasions where they have to use the original transfers for some shots, presumably due to them not being able to find the original film, the difference in quality is shocking.

Though even with SD videotaped material you can often see these things too, with us watching on bigger screens than were around back then and clean digital broadcasts and DVDs, rather than analogue broadcasts with noise and interference.

They are shows that were shot on film but can't be remastered because the effects were edited on videos like Star Trek DS9 and Star Trek Voyager.

I remember watching Gone with the Wind on TV a few years back and it was a recently restored HD or 4K version and it looked absolutely stunning.
Here's a good video from Technology Connections explaining why you can HD old film, but not video. Hence Wham's "Last Christmas" video from 1984 is now avaiable in glorious 4K!

See they've dropped the titles this week and are just opening with a sting after the recap.

Very Home & Away.  Why now?

Allows more time for the episode

Like they used to do in the early 90s, then.

I'm guessing because the focus is less on the current cast.

They certainly can be remastered, but it would inevitably involve re-creating the visual effects to an HD standard. No different to what was done with Star Trek TNG. DS9 and Voyager are almost certain to be done at some point, but the unlikelihood of a substantial market for Blu-Ray sales (for example) makes it slightly less of a priority.
Most of TNG's effects were done on film, or were quite simple things to recreate like phaser shots, as opposed to the quite complex CGI used on DS9 and Voyager, particularly later in their runs.
Confirmed Home and Away moves into the 1.45pm slot and Cash in the Attic replaces Neighbours at 6pm.

No evening Home & Away, though industry rumour suggests Ben Frow would like shot of that too but the lifetime deal with Seven Network prevents him.

Home and Away is much cheaper than Neighbours ever was. They could in theory just stick it on 5Star but I suspect it has to have an airing on the main 5 channel.
They're missing a trick by not airing Home & Away at 7pm and making the lunchtime edition the repeat. Big point of difference over news and current affairs.

That's riveting entertainment!
It's the comeback literally nobody was asking for.
