Not sure if they’ve done this already or if I’ve imagined it, but that tower screen would make a brilliant massive 10 Downing Street door.

That's exactly why I went searching for the case study from the creators (Jago design) to see if they'd posted any pics of the set in election mode. 

Will probably display Big Ben at 10pm too.

Because the name is so iconic, we, the people of the world, subconsciously refer to the entire tower as Big Ben, as opposed to the official name.

Hi question was a reference to the fact that in popular culture / common parlance the name of the bell and the name of the tower are synonymous. Internet pedanticness at its best!

Oops - the Channel Islands didn't make it onto the multiscreen again. It's becoming a semi-regular problem!

Would that be because the Channel Islands come through Spotlight or that In theory not make a difference?  

I always thought the late bbc regional news was pre recorded unless some major news story broke during the evening,

I don't think that the BBC pre-records entire bulletins, though I'm surprised it hasn't been mandated given budget cuts.

I fail to see how the Beeb pre-recording e.g. the late night (or any) regional bulletin would save money.

It would surely require the same people/resources (and therefore budget) whether recorded at e.g. 8pm or done genuinely live at 10:30pm?

Unless you're suggesting that they *fully* go down the ITV route, closing certain studio locations so that some programmes are presented from out-of-region? (e.g. EMT coming from Birmingham, Spotlight from Bristol, etc. The latter would of course have implications on how to handle the St. Helier sub-opt, on days when the "Plymouth" edition isn't the live one).

My thinking was that, although not all bulletins require a full crew, to get through the full day most regions must use at least two sets of studio and gallery crew. If you recorded the late bulletin earlier, you could use the same team for the lunchtime, evening and late bulletin. Although I understand that Breakfast opts already use a limited crew, I suspect they could probably come from a more restricted CSO set-up instead of using a full studio - though it isn't a large cost, TV studios aren't cheap to operate - the electricity bill must add up having a dozen or so regions use full studio lighting for a short opt. I'm not saying they should do it, just there are small ways that I think you can save money - which is something the BBC is in a constant state of needing.

I'd seen a suggestion that CI might have to use a different method to get their contribution to NBH. I think connectivity is more challenging to the Channel Islands than elsewhere which I find odd given some of the companies that have offices in the islands.
