Great use of the proper BBC ONE and BBC TWO logos there. /irony

The phone graphic has a blurry logo on it too - they really should've used the stacked version of the logo there, which is what appears when you load the app.

I think cinematograpic effects such as focus pulling, and the use swallow depth of field lenses don't belong in news. There was an awful example from Ed Thomas on last night's BBC 10pm news, I was so distracted by it, this morning I can't even recall the subject matter. There also seems to be a rash of the '25p' filmic effect, even on live reports. Hard to tell sometimes whether it's deliberate, accidental, or just due to poor training. I'm a huge fan of Chris Mason, but I'm not a huge fan of that style of reporting while the event is still in progress, or finishing up. Seems to have started about 10 years ago with sports news reporting.

One thing that it does occur to me when I see that is that is how much he was actually concentrating on the speech, particularly the end of he was getting ready to do the piece to camera

There wasn't much of substance in the speech, certainly little that was unexpected and certainly not in the closing moments. Chris's piece to camera was probably written in advance of the speech.
Presumably his producer or another correspondent would have been making notes that he could refer to during subsequent live hits giving analysis

I assume tomorrow's BBC regional politics opts will be live rather than the usual Friday pre-rec? I can't imagine there being any confidence that the state of play on Friday would still be valid on Sunday

We didn't. What Chris may have been told in confidence before the speech is another matter
I guess had there been any surprises he may not have done that piece to camera in that way.

The speech maker is renowned for going 'off piste' at zero notice, I doubt anyone inside No 10 would have tipped Chris Mason or anyone else off. <he says in supposition mode>? |
