It felt very dated IMO. The Hit List is hardly original but it's a fairly easy watch, whilst this was a drag for me.

Yes, though of course for the majority of the audience, The Hit List is the more familiar show as they won't have seen Name That Tune before.

It's unfortunate they were both on the same night, of course, but they can hardly take the moral high ground when they introduce a new round in The Wall of Sound which makes it look even more like The Hit List.

I have it in mind that a couple of the idents used on the original Gameshow Marathon were the wrong ones. Not 100% certain, but didn't they use a Yorkshire ident before The Price Is Right or something like that?

Yeah. Yorkshire only made the 90s version, Central made the 80s one. They corrected that mistake in series 2. They're all listed on the Wikipedia article.

I'd assumed they'd used Yorkshire so more regions would be played out over the series, since Central were going to be played at the end anyway for Bullseye and FF.

Which started in 1981 and 1980 respectively, so one of those could have been ATV (whose frontcap wasn't used in series 1, but was in series 2 for The Golden Shot).

Gladiators wouldn't be on Epic Gameshow since it's too physical plus it's not a Fremantle format.

A gameshow is defined by Wikipedia as "a type of radio, television or stage show where contestants regularly compete for a reward", although as far as Gladiators is concerned IIRC nobody won anything unless they won the final, so if you won your heat and got knocked out in the semi-final, then tough. Although on one occasion somebody had an accident in the final and they had to parachute in a semi-finalist in to keep the competition going. I think the prize money was split on that occasion.

However all that being said, Gladiators was revived by Sky in 2008. And the less said about it the better, really.

I used to enjoy this series, but much preferred the Tom O'Connor version which featured in his Wednesday at Eight/London Night Out series.

Connections has, as far as I know, never been repeated, neither the stripped teenager version or the weekly adult version. I’d really like to see that again - even a remake might be successful. Like Blockbusters and Millionaire it was a rolling format and just ended each day mid-round if they ran out of time.

Name That Tune was an interesting one to do as the original was quite stylish, serious and intelligent. Also all the questions in the original were actually about tunes of a certain type and era rather than the sort of songs that people know now.

I thought they made quite a good job of it, they imitated the graphic design quite well and the band did a great job. However it was a bit flawed in gameplay - we got the answers right to all the songs in the bid a note round without actually hearing any of the songs. Also the winer of the rounds was whoever gained the most money in the round., but the last question was always worth more, so a contestant could just answer one question correct and then go through to the next round.

I was a bit disappointed we didn't see a return of the old 80s quiz show staple, the isolation booth and headphones.

Would be nice but I think EG is going for the 'classic' british formats of the primetime of yesteryear - Jeopardy here was very much a daytime format (wasn't it screened after GMTV?) but it also was hardly a huge success here - I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who isn't a gameshow nut or American who knows what Jeopardy is. Anyway I think Sony own it.

I don't think Jeopardy would lend itself to the Epic Gameshow plus as mentioned it's a Sony format so wouldn't feature anyway since the majority of the shows are Fremantle formats.

I would guess Sale of the Century would be an option for Epic Gameshow if it has another series.

We've had the discussion on Jeopardy before, its one of those format that we've had a few bashes at but I think we took at the wrong time. Maybe if it had appeared on ITV after 1993 when prize limits were raised, it could have been more successful, those rules killed the game over here. Its not the same if you lose 3000 "points" as opposed to losing £3k, and Millionaire in its original guise showed once you get high enough up the table people will watch players risk losing a few thousand on a question.

Yes its a crap format, it always has been but it's been on the air in the States for decades.
