I'm not so sure about this, never particularly rated her as a straight newsreader, there are smoother autocue readers. If any of the News channel presenters deserve a promotion to a regular position on the main bulletins it's Jane Hill, who is one of the BBC's best newsreaders - though she is also one of the best rolling news presenters in the country, so it might be that her talents are better spent on the new merged channel (as an aside, Hill would probably be a very good election night lead presenter).

I think Newsnight is probably a better shout for Derbyshire. Not just are they in need of a permanent lead presenter, but the whole show could so with a bit of a refresh and a rejig. Derbyshire interviewing + Ros Atkins-style in-studio analysis could probably give the show some much needed reinvigoration, while hiding the fact its budget has been cut to shreds.

I would agree, I think she always seems a bit awkward on the network bulletins, like she wants to go into that more conversational format if a long form broadcast but obviously can’t in a fixed length bulletin.

Breakfast with Louise left would have been a good slot for her, but obviously she doesn’t want to work in Salford, nor presumably get up at 3am three days a week

I don't quite understand why they're introducing NEW presenters just before they're about to merge two news channels which will inevitably mean they will need less.

Is it a bit like bringing your subs on for a runaround at the end just so they can say they played?

Just because that might be happening soon doesn't mean they can get away without an adequate pool of on-air talent right now. Just because they have "enough" presenters for a normal week doesn't mean they necessarily have enough when people get sick / take holiday / go on assignment / etc. so it's a continually revolving cycle of bringing in new presenters (particularly when they're already on the payroll as a correspondent/reporter).

Most things on the iPlayer feels like more clicks more than it needs to be. Been frustrating watching the tennis having to select your profile everytime.

Gareth Barlow used to be a newsreader on WS English bulletins for many years.. kudos to him for making it onto television.
He might still be.. I'm fairly sure I heard him yesterday...
Perhaps he'll be like James Menedez, shifting in and out of WS and World...
