Please stop repeating this nonsense. It’s already been explained enough times that iPlayer has offered 50fps streaming on a wide range of devices for years now. As has just been pointed out some of them now offer 1080p and, for certain things, UHD HDR.

If you’re not able to see 50fps streaming (at all times) that’s down to your equipment and / or setup, stop trying to imply it’s down to the BBC.

This is probably a trivia question only Steve Williams could answer but I'm wondering when the last Wimbledon without any schedule disruption was.  I'm guessing pre-Henmania?

I think every Wimbledon would have caused some disruption, even when the British players were doing nothing. I've got a Radio Times from 1981 where there are loads of complaints about overruns. Obviously the rain would have caused problems most years.

The difference in those days was that it would pretty much all be on BBC2. There was a stat that in the eighties sport made up about 40% of BBC2's output but only about 2% of its budget, so they took it for granted a bit. Obviously now it costs quite a bit more so they have to make it much more prominent. There was that middle Saturday a few years ago when it continued on BBC1 past 7pm even when there weren't any Brits playing, seemingly because it was more interesting than the repeats and fillers they had scheduled, so you can see why they're going on to 8.30 on BBC1 now.

What amuses me is that people say "why can't they just keep it on BBC2, people don't care if it's on BBC1 or BBC2", and then elsewhere will moan about BBC1 showing Garden Rescue repeats and so on in a way they don't about repeats on primetime on any other channel. So clearly it does matter if it's on BBC1.

* That was quite an odd Wimbledon, they moved CBBC to BBC2 to run 4.30-6, and Neighbours was on at 7pm for the fortnight, with an unbilled cartoon at 7.25 every night, and Top of the Pops at 8pm. I remember Byker Grove, Blue Peter and Activ8 all got in the BBC2 Top 10 during it, though that was mostly because with the World Cup and Wimbledon there weren't that many other programmes on BBC2.

Iplayer is pretty clever underneath  the hood ie it seems to know what your device is and gives you the specific feeds as well as knowing how fast your internet is and yeah Wimbledon UHD is great, my question is though a broadcaster friend tells me there’s a UHD multiplex on 7e so does that mean there’s multiple courts in UHD?

No. My point is that we get lots of posts saying "why do they move these matches to BBC1, everyone can get BBC2". But then we also have lots of posts on this and other forums whenever the BBC1 schedule is a bit threadbare and they're showing Garden Rescue repeats on Saturday teatimes and so on because seemingly it's a poor offering for a flagship channel, even if no other channel is showing new content at that time.

Seemingly the BBC1 schedule gets so much scrutiny is because it's the most important channel. So seemingly there is a difference between BBC1 and BBC2.

Well, there is. BBC1 is a flagship channel, as you've said.

It will get more scrutiny because people see the licence fee paying for BBC programmes and the other channels generally being held account for showing repeats because they are funded by advertising.

Pointless hasn't been moved. Casualty looking like it'll be a casualty too if it makes it to a 5th set - why it's even commissioned to run through Wimbledon is baffling. It never used to be.

It took BBC1 two sets though of a routine Nadal procession to realise the most talked about match of the tournament so far was occuring on the iPlayer. This should have been on Centre anyway, but even though it wasn't it probably should have been prioritised. However Kyrgios's lanaguage wasn't exactly BBC1 7pm.

Ultimately though the idea of primetime coverage on BBC1 was supposedly so there was less disruption but it's ended up worse than ever. It's a simple fix though by extending that coverage half an hour next year with more consideration into the programmes scheduled at 9pm, so dropping them is less of an issue.

As a non Wimbledon fan I'd go further. Schedule Wimbledon till 2200 on BBC1 and provide everyone with more certainty. I feel like everyone wins this way.

A problem here with the BBC focusing on Nadal early on meaning we have three people now disgussing the drama in the early stages of the Kyrgios Tsitsipas match having clearly not watched anything other than the clips provided.

If they want iPlayer to be the future the most important thing is that they get rid of the delay, it's very frustrating to be around two minutes behind real time when watching live events.
