Surprised I missed that. It does seem to be a dig at TV Ark and the like.

I don't think that's a dig at TV Ark specifically. It's more likely aimed at those YouTubers who stick their own watermarks on other people's content and decide to use some butt-ugly design for said watermark which is either unrealistic, anachronistic or just generally total crap. Sometimes they try to be clever and cover up the original source of the video (you'll notice Crystal Maze tried to do this and just stuck their own logo over off-air recordings other people had made - most of those came from either Challenge or Ftn airings - and you saw some right horrible edits on those videos). Or present false history - a certain 15 minute music interval loving individual is good at this, no names mentioned.

AFAIK TV-Ark have always watermarked their videos, but that's hardly a "in your face" one (neither is the Transdiffusion watermark), but its probably safe to say both of these may have clean copies of what they uploaded.

Most of the presentation-related channels whom now employ watermarks on content chose this option to prevent you-know-who reusing content for their output.

I don't get as much time as before to watch the more technically-minded YT channels, although I have noticed a few accounts who deal usually with presentation are also sharing clips focusing on the hardware that's involved in what they do; e.g. Aidan Lunn and the TV sets he restores; and clips like these are a nice complement to the off-site material, I think.

Not that it usually stops him anyway.

I still get incredibly frustrated when you search for something and you get countless amounts of his videos without any proper indication that they're not real, then you click on one of them without noticing who posted it.

Then he asked for nude photos.

This thread seems to have become YT recommendations rather than YT pres discussion, though I don't think that's a bad thing. I think a lot of channels have mixed levels of presentation and how far they will go budget wise to go beyond just sitting in front of a camcorder ect. Some of my fave channels are a bit more rough with the presentation, yet provide great info anyway - others have a fancy studio set up with bells and whistles along with nice open and closing graphics.

Oddity Archive tends to stay a little simple. But Ben does a lot of good research for topics he covers even if it's a bit of a slide presentation at times. Mind he's American so he tends to be a little less well versed on TV outside the US, though he did do a nice episode looking at Teletext type services despite never really taking off in the US.

Another good (but US centric channel) - is Poparena with their "Nick Knacks" retrospective series which is generally seeking to make a record of *every* show Nick aired at some point. Is an interesting story of how a failed experiment into early interactive TV give rise to quite a few big channels + Nickelodeon's transformation over the years. He does tend to editorialize a bit but if you like BobTheFish as well then you'll likely just get used to it.

Thank you, I think you can end this particular line of discussion there.

Absolutely. If there's one person I recommend on YT, then it's Adam Martyn since he has done a lot of great reviews of TV idents.

For example, here's his recent Ident Review.

I strongly recommend Legal Eagle

Not only is he very reacting to lawyers on TV - he talks a lot about real events in the US and explains some the background to the law.
As you would expect as an American lawyer.. his presentation is very slick and even from early on it was pretty good and has evolved over the years and of a very high standard has only improved over the years.

I have to confess – and I'm sure he's a brilliant, lovely guy, and clearly he's very knowledgeable – but I've always found Tom Scott a little too smug for my liking. ? Sorry! He's obviously put the hours in though, and does a good job of taking the time to go through a topic properly, which I respect.

lawful masses is an excellent channel worth watching. he covers legal stuff from the US. he's living in the EU now , however https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChBJtu4...t9Qe9R-EZg

Way to suck all the fun out of something. "Home Alone broke the law?" - well yes, but it would be a very boring film if it was kid left at home, parents arrested at airport for neglect/abandonment/whatever, kid (and rest of the minors) handed over to social services, end of film, thank you for watching, that'll be a few million dollars please.

There's nothing wrong with keeping things simple and its that simplicity that in my opinion is part of Oddity Archive's charm. Admittedly "Pavanned" can be a bit grating but that's a minor niggle. I've learnt a lot about US TV history from watching them. (The teletext video was very good.)
