Same graphics as last few years on the Wimbledon qualifying, so unlikely they'll be any change to the main match graphics for the main event though I think we're expecting BBC Sport to at least update the BBC logo next week as part of the "chameleon" roll out, not that it's legible on most graphics anyway.

The Wimbledon match graphics are no longer provided by the BBC (who are no longer host broadcaster) - Wimbledon themselves have looked after the match coverage as host broadcaster for the last 4 or so years.

In other news, Sir Nick Faldo has announced he will retire from "full time broadcasting" at the end of the current PGA Tour season in August. He is currently CBS' lead analyst and will be replaced in that role by South African Trevor Immelman.

PL slots are the same as previous years presumably since the rights were rolled over for 2022-25 from the previous contract.

Almost the same but in practise they will be more 19.45 Saturday matches compared to last season due to the fact 12.30 for teams playing in CL on the Wednesday has now been ruled out. 

I think the next rights renewal could well see all matches ending up available. Illegal streaming seems to be growing more and more.

My eyes everytime I see them, horrid. At least there is some black on there and it's not totally lime green and illuminous yellow I guess (#ClutchingAtStraws).

Anyway, Scotland "A" v. Chile are on Premier Sports 1. At least from next week there is no channel hopping needed with all home nations matches on Sky. (PS Japan v France apparently on Premier Sports next week) (PPS: Ireland are playing midweek matches as well as on Saturday)

Yes, though this is in place of the annual U20 World Cup which isn't taking place this year, with South Africa and Georgia added to the mix for all those conspiracy theorists about making additions to the Six Nations.   Two pools of four with three rounds of matches in the pool then a finals weekend of 1v1, 2v2 etc.


(P.S. As a NOW customer I was able to get Sky Sports for a month for £9.99 to cover these series if anyone is looking for offers).

Yes. It's a separate competition that is taking place in Italy this year. All of the matches from the tournament are broadcast live on the U-20's 6 Nations YouTube channel.

I didn't know about this competition either tbh particularly when all of the home nations rugby union teams around the British Isles are doing their own summer tours as well.

The graphics don't look nice to my eyes either. Too bright and garish for me.

Shame as the last couple have got decent linear treatment, but being in tennis season isn't ideal.  Even a delayed 7-9pm slot on BBC3 though would be OK.  Not even any coverage on the final weekend with highlights of the week.

Evidence points to this being almost an eleventh hour agreement which also would partly explain the lack of linear coverage. As late Monday (maybe Tuesday), the Fina website was listing coverage in the UK being on their own streaming service All Aquatics only, but was updated to be on the BBC too. In 2019 of course there was no live linear rights in the UK and in other countries due to Fina's extoriante valuing of rights. BBC had extended highlights daily and it was all available to view via PPV from Fina. Can't find much info on the UK ste-up of Fina's 2019 coverage, but it was $40 for the week in Australia, with Seven amongst those not paying the high fees.

It seems Fina have seen sense this year with many FTA broadcasters across Europe showing it. Whilst it's understandable but disappointing  that the BBC will have little linear coverage, it is worth noting that it is on paper a weakened British team due to injuriy and there being three major championships this year over six weeks, which may have helped influence the decision for lack of linear BBC coverage.

From what I can gather, every session from every sport (water polo, diving, swimming etc.) appears on the schedule for All Aquatics in the UK. It appears to be run by Eurovision Sports and is I believe free after logging in. I almost added my birthday as 199 AD when signing up, but apart fro that looks quite a decent system. Worth noting there will be commmentary on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra of most evening session too.

After the swimming has come to an end thought I should return to it for a review. Despite the stripped back coverage, I personally quite enjoyed the coverage. As is often the case with BBC Sport coverage, the studio can threaten to impead on the actual sport, so the fact that was removed helped the coverage flow a bit better. The world feed also contained brief poolside interviews with the gold medal winners, which although not as good or British-focused of those usually conducted by Sharon Davies for the BBC, sweetened their loss to a degree. I often forget how good Andy Jamieson is as a swimming commentator: knowledgable about the sport and has enjoyable partnership with everyone he works with (former Australian swimmer-turned-agent Rob Woodhouse and Becky Adlington were the main co-commentators this week).

From the competition point of view, it was positive to hear at multiple points that many swimmers, particularly those from Australia, have priortised the Commonwealth Games over the World Championships. On one hand, this has in a way vindicated the BBC's decision to have less emphasis on the se championships, but also a relief that the Commonwealths, which would have had a bigger viewiership regardless of the scheduling this month as it's in England and a multi-sport event, won't just be a second-class competition which have been a bit awkward to show on primetime BBC One.


With diving taking place this week and clashing with Wimbledon, I was slightly curious who the BBC would call in lieu of Kat Downes as lead commentator. But it appears they have just opted for the world feed commentary from Australian Mike McCann. Not really a surprise in the context of at least another 18 live sport streams available at the same time.

Jeanette Kwayke has confirmed that she will present the BBC coverage of the World Athletics Championship in a few weeks. That will presumably allow Gabby Logan to prioritise Women's Euro 2022. Presentation will be based in Salford, with Sarah Mulkerrins taking Jeanette's place trackside. Michael Johnson will also be in Eugene, as the championships are in his home country (for the first time somehow). The usual BBC athletics commentary team also mentioned, no confirmation if commentary will be from Eugene or Salford, but IIRC in 2015 commentary was from Beijing with presentation in Salford, the most recent occasion these championships weren't presented onsite.

Understandably with the timings, the BBC have likely ranked the World Championships as the third biggest athletics championships of the year (behind the Europeans and the Commonwealth Games).
