If either result comes in before 2am, then presumably apart from a mention on the ticker, there will be no coverage at all (I doubt Newsday will break their running order to mention UK by-election results).

If a result comes in during the 2am, 3am or 4am bulletins there might be a mention. But the problem the overnight World simulcasts have are making results of two UK by-elections relevant to a global audience, especially during the 2am bulletin that's simulcast on PBS.

Most reputable pundits are saying results will come in between 4am and 6am so we can expect a busy Breakfast and morning.

So World viewers will be treated to an hour of rolling analysis and pundit commentary of the results between 10 - 11am BST, which will have very little relevance to a global audience.

I think the fact that World simulcast with the NC nearly all day on the day of the confidence vote in Boris Johnson, means that they won't break away from the 10 - 11am simulcast. Simulcast hours now seem to be set in stone no matter what happens.

Neither are of much relevance to international audiences, which makes the 10 - 11am simulcast such an anomaly. Is there a good reason why World needs to simulcast with the NC on weekdays 10 - 11am and cannot produce its own output during this hour? (other than cost cutting)

Yes it is. But it's not necessarily what should be going out on an international news channel.

There are two by-elections today, which could have an impact.  I would expect WN/NC to go their separate ways for a couple of hours to allow the domestic audience to see the result, together with any comments/discussion.

David Eades hosting from Studio C alongside Lewis Goodall for the BBC News by-election coverage, with pundits and commentators also joining remotely. Not sure how much was simulcasted on World, but coverage continued in the back half hour of the 3am and 4am hour (but not the 2:30 half hour).

Some other news was covered before 3:30 but appears to be almost exclusively by-election coverage and discussion since (I've been watching Sky mainly so can't be 100% certain of that).

Yes, the by-elections may be of significance to World viewers, but not enough to justify rolling coverage. So whilst this morning you'd expect the NC to be rolling with this, it won't be because it now has to cater for World viewers as well.

And this is exactly why I was so sceptical of the 'opt-out' plan post-merger. It just won't happen. UK stories which might justify a 2-minute report on World are going to take up whole hours, simply because that is what is justifiable to UK viewers. And it's a shame that this will happen to World - the channel worked so hard to become profitable in the mid-2000s, to become a major international player in the 2010s - and now it's being gutted and having its reputation as a channel that actually covered international news ruined to save the arse of its failing cousin.
