I know I’ve mentioned how bonkers I think this is previously, but Richard and Ranvir sat socially distanced for the entire show yesterday, then proceeded to sit right next to each other for the final item!
Quite what makes the corner of the studio or the sofa area a Covid-safe zone in comparison to the desk I do not know. I think the remaining social distancing is purely related to the size of the desk and not knowing what to do with it in ‘normal’ times rather than anything else. I can’t help but agree with others that the show is coasting; who was the last new guest host they tried? I think Susanna is excellent and doesn’t even necessarily need a co-host, but they need to find a replacement for Piers or make it Susanna’s show permanently and really own it. At the moment there’s no real format or USP to promote it with. We very rarely get ratings anymore but would be very interested to see how the program is doing, and particularly whether it’s rating above Daybreak v2 levels of 600-700k.

Only problem with making it the Susanna show is what if she leaves? They’d be really screwed then. They need to find a solid co presenter of equal billing, and for that they’ll need to stump up. But we know they can as they did so for Morgan.

According to this article, Piers Morgan is rumoured to want Rupert Murdoch to make a ‘blowout bid’ to poach Susanna to join him on TalkTV. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2022/j...-at-talktv Obviously nothing concrete here, but clearly Susanna’s departure is something of a possibility.

And they've invested so much in Piers and the rest of the GMB team that they might as well go the whole way...

Of course the question is whether Susanna would actually want to join what’s widely regarded as a sinking ship.
I don’t believe for a moment that her joining TalkTV would be enough to turn around its fortunes, and I doubt she’s naïve enough to believe this either. But everyone’s got their price. That is if there’s any truth in this at all.

I think both her and TalkTV would be wise to look at the former 'One Show to Daybreak' move as an example from the past. Back then Adrian and Christine worked well together on the One Show, and someone in ITV Breakfast clearly thought that poaching them for Daybreak would mean it would be a guaranteed success. History proved that it wasn't just the presenter(s) that made the show work / a success, and that there were many other factors involved. I'm inclined to suspect that poaching Susanna wouldn't help the programme ratings much, at least not in the UK. In the UK one problem is that it's not on a high EPG number, which it would be if on BBC/ITV. I dare say if they could do a deal with one of the local TV companies such as That's TV for a simulcast it would allow Piers' show to be on channel 7/8, which might mean more viewers find his show.

Susanna would be mad to jump ship from a stable job at ITV, where she seems to be well regarded, to the highly insecure and barely-watched TalkTV.
We know that Murdoch is absolutely ruthless if a project is tanking, so there is every possibility Susanna could make the move to find the whole channel is dumped three months later. Also given how frosty things got towards the end, I think any chemistry the two had is gone quite frankly. In the time just before Pier’s exit, the program could have a really nasty edge at times and the playful relationship between Morgan and Reid had evaporated quite frankly. That’s a difficult thing to get back. However, Susanna has been with ITV and GMB for 8 years now (which feels pretty remarkable), so it doesn’t seem impossible she might fancy a change fairly soon, but I’d be very surprised if that change was TalkTV.

Susanna already took what was quite a risky move when she went to ITV. By the time she joined in 2014, Adrian and Christine had already gone up in flames after doing the same thing, and Lorraine’s (now pretty much forgotten) stint on the main sofa hadn’t worked either, so Susanna wasn’t exactly promised job security. I reckon she would feel she’s already been lucky once and wouldn’t want to go there again

There can also be an issue of perception when you're seen by viewers to have moved for a bigger pay cheque.
When Adrian Chiles and Christine Lampard presented The One Show, they were seen as presenters who'd worked their way up from regional / daytime TV to the show. The very public negotiations between BBC & ITV and Christine after Adrian Chiles left did change perceptions and Christine's career never really recovered.

I can't see either Susanna leaving or TalkTV coughing up the cash. They'd likely rather axe Piers than throw more money at it.
However as things stand I think Susanna leaving might be what is required for them to finally permanently replace Piers, relaunching with a new permanent duo at the helm.

I think it’s more that she is not that versatile as a presenter imo. People like Adrian Chiles seem to adapt more easily to different formats and can reinvent themselves quite easily. She was only really known for the One Show, and that doesn’t require you to be the most inspiring or talented presenter. The difference to other daytime presenters is they are either legends of the game (like Lorraine), people aspire to be them (like Holly), or they are just genuinely talented at what they do

In that case, you may as well move Ben and Kate up to the front of the week with Ranvir or Charlotte doing the backend of the week with Sean Fletcher

Not entirely sure you can categorise Lorraine and Susanna in the same league as Christine and Holly. Neither of the latter are journalists nor have any such experience. Susanna and Lorraine are both journalists. I’m old enough to remember her presenting/anchoring the Lockerbie plane crash on TV-AM when she was a wee Bonnie lass. The idea that Holly is a legend I find simply laughable, sorry Natasha I mean no offence. BIG MOIRA may have lacked a journalism background but she spent long enough in a purely news environment to be able to anchor on her own. Adrian Chiles was lucky he got the sports gig off the back of Daybreak, Christine not so much and even today has barely appeared on tv since. Just my thoughts though.

And she is also a regular stand-in host of Lorraine. |
