One camera, it moves!

I'm sure the Langham camera has remote PTZ control from NBH, though as we discovered one evening recently the gentle zoom during the 10pm news headline sequence is a pre programmed DVE effect. I'm sure someone will be along shorly with the video of that incident

I think they have a 'beauty shot' camera on the roof that looks at The Palace of Westminster and Westminster Bridge?

Yes, most notably used when the Westminster Bridge terror attacks happened.

LNN had a camera on the roof of 'TLS/Kent House etc' As I said in the other place, on 9/11 I was in the gallery there, and someone turned the camera onto Canary Wharf, fed the output to a VTR, and slapped in a three hour tape. (I can't remember the colour or brand of that tape unfortunately)

Do most BBC regional sites still have a PTZ camera on the roof? The practice of the national weather forecast taking a few shots from these to illustrate the weather in different parts of the country seems to have been dropped a long time ago, and the original Lambie-Nairn generic sets with the fake window fed from these cameras are no more, so I guess they are of less use than they once were.

I know Leeds still has one.
Write that down in your copybook now

A friend of mine who worked at BBC Southampton in the early 80s while a student, says they had an EMI 2001! on the roof of the then South Western House to provide the CSO 'window' shot of Southampton docks.

I do recall it being used one evening for some 80s style breaking news of a fire at Fawley Oil Refinery

I'm pretty sure it is PTZ, I've seen them zoom in on things happening outside BH

Anyone else remember that plan they had for the memorial on the roof of BH which was supposed to send out a beam of light at the start of the news every night in memory of journalists killed in action?

Yes, I do recall that plan too

Anyway, I've found the 'giveaway' blooper where the camera was set to bars (or similar error)

Do you know how to upload photos? I was outside NBH today and got a picture

They weren’t the only ones, but if I told you who else did I’d have to kill you.

You appear to be quoting me - but I did not say that, perhaps someone else did?

I have not watched any BBC news broadcasts for probably over two decades so I would have no idea what they do or don't do with their news presentation.

That's strange. Sorry about that. I meant to quote Markymark, don't know what went wrong.

Don’t worry, I actually found another recording of the fault, and posted that yesterday anyway, so we're more than covered on all bases 8-)

Well - almost right. LNN News was running MAV2000 servers by then and the roof camera pointing at Canary Wharf was being recording on loop on those using Sony's Newsbase platform. That went on for some days I recall.
