Unsurprising given most of the regions are run on a shoestring at the weekend. Setting a shot up and providing the feed for the Ten is probably more hassle than its worth on a Sunday evening.

One interesting thing is that this is probably the first time the various BBC1 news bulletins have had noticeably different sets since, probably, 1993. I know since then the various bulletins have had their own tweaks - the different graphical layouts and shades of blue in the 1993-99 incarnation, and of course the period at the end of TVC where the Six came from a different studio to the One and Ten, and there was that period in the noughties when the Saturday night news came from the News 24 set - but they were all the same basic style and to the average viewer it was the same set.

Whereas now there are two very obviously different sets on the go across the BBC1 bulletins. That's the first time, really, since the One, Six and Nine all had their unique sets up to 1993.

Yes and he also did this afternoon on the News Channel, which leads me to wonder if they'll move to a set up of having a 'senior' face do the Ten on a Sunday with somebody else doing the teatime bulletin (who will also work the NC during the day). If so, it'll be the first time since c.1999 the two evening bulletins have had different presenters at weekend, at least on a Sunday.

They've long considered the 10 on the Sunday an extension of the weekend brand (ever since the 10 launched actually). It's usually had the more senior presenters on it - not Huw but the likes of Fiona, Clive and Mishal, rarely seen on a Saturday shift. The news has often rated well on Sundays for both the BBC and ITV hence they generally get more senior faces than the Saturday.

I don't know really why ITV didn't follow suit especially when News at Ten relaunched with Tom Bradby as it is probably more consistently in the 10pm slot on Sundays than some weeknights, and fleshing out that bulletin would offset the nights later in the week they might push it back more. That said though it's nice that the old generic News at Ten titles survive on Sundays at least.

Indeed, I think that part of the original promise of moving the News to 10 O'Clock was that the late news would be at the same time six-nights-a-week. And, in the last few years, there definitely seems to have been a push to start the Saturday late bulletin at 22:00 as often as possible. It is increasingly common to see the late news at 10 every day of the week, though, as you say, the Saturday bulletin has clearly not yet been promoted to a top-tier bulletin as the Sunday bulletin seems to have.

The Sunday late bulletin is usually on at Ten and rates extremely well, so has been branded as an official ‘Ten’ for some years now. However, one of the reasons there is no multi-screen hand to regions at the end, because there aren’t integrated headlines at the beginning and Jersey, Oxford and Cambridge don’t do weekend opts.
