Will the 1pm News move into Studio B when Studio E is being refitted and refurbished? I have not watched the 1pm News, so are they still in Studio E? Thanks.

Still in E, I'd guess it'll go wherever the News Channel ends up.

They're definitely touch screens - the idea being there isn't the need for someone in the gallery to manage the slides!

There will still be someone in the gallery 'babysitting' the slides, that's for sure, so that person still has to exist.

What leads you to the conclusion they are, quote 'definitely' touch screens, I've seen nothing from trusted tweeters etc that confirms it one way or the other ?

They're touchscreens alright.

Just a thought if E goes out of action for months what happens to J (The OS studio) would they like building work in the background? or could the reconfigure J as a temporary NC studio?

On the News at One point, I noticed that Paul Royall (who is the editor of the Six and Ten) is now also the editor of the One according to his Twitter bio – maybe a sign that it is being transferred from News Channel production? I suppose they might co-ordinate the merging of the two news channels and the refurbishment of Studio E, with the joint operation coming from C, and the One and any UK-specific coverage coming from B.

Well compared to ITN, BBC have plenty of alternative studio space for any refurbishments. ITN still only have three studios to cover ITV national news, ITV News London, Channel 4 News and Channel 5 News. Quite a squeeze.

Interesting development. I have a stupid question: Have the One, Six and Ten (previously Nine) ever shared an editor in this way before or have they until recently (2013 onwards, I'm guessing) had separate ones? Sorry to ask.

A few thoughts:

I really like the look of this set in wide shots – it's really quite impressive, and the colour palette and shapes quite stunning. I also like the layout with several different areas. I like the use of height and materials. The screen technology is really amazing.

I don't like the close up shots, especially the desk, so much. It's the best not-real (i.e. recorded/CGI) newsroom backdrop I've seen, probably, but that's not saying very much. Knowing it is not real/live doesn't help, but actually for me it's always the angles. Looks fine front on, but daft as soon as the camera dollies or the angle otherwise shifts. I also just don't like the shot aesthetically, unfortunately.

By contrast, I love Studio E so much, and have done since it opened. Honestly it's not aged for me by a day – I think it's my favourite ever news set. I do see the desire to do more interesting things in a larger space, but E is just a beautiful set.

On that note, then, I still feel completely surprised that BBC News have decided to make this move at all. After years of merging, sharing efficiencies and resources, it seems batshit to go to all this expense – not just in capital terms, but in day-to-day ones too. Yet this really speaks of their ambitions for these major bulletins – it's a content-driven change, isn't it? They want to do more with the programmes after decades of much the same, and I can certainly get behind that. Not all of the presentation stuff will last, but that's okay. This stuff takes time to settle.

Just me that’s never been a fan of studio E then? I’ve always thought it to be a bit small and dingy.
