Our old friend, the Red BBC News Box lives 

Opening to the 6 after the titles, with the camera view from the left towards the desk, from behind the huge vertical screen - thus avoiding the above situation - the red boxed BBC News logo & the one on the tower, on the screen simultaneously.

Does anyone know if the balcony area is wide enough for a desk and chairs/interview area? Would be a good area to use at election time.

Any caps of said area as I thought it was just there for decoration to give the set some height rather than actually functional.

The 6 felt quite different to last nights 10. Sophie sat at the desk for much of the bulletin, and it felt that not as much of the studio was used. Also the presenting style was different to that from Huw last night...more scripted and less conversational, with Sophie carrying papers when she ventured from the desk. Lovely studio though, and feels much fresher and modern.

How is the shot with the regions done by the way? Lining up 15 outside sources and contribution circuits seems like more hassle than it's worth.

Surely it's just a BNCS salvo ?

Nope, it's done as Steve suggests, every region just sends down the correct shot and they're fed into the multiviewer. Of course it's the same thing twice a day, 5 days a week so after a few days it will be routine, and shouldn't be too much hassle

Before it happened I was thinking it was going to show the tower but go to the desk from the right. Guess I was wrong.

The red box is such a nuisance though. At least it should be gone next year.

Am I right in thinking the grey borders to the narrow newsroom view is a bit of an homage to the late 1980s Nine O'clock news set? Or is it just a coincidence in keeping with the neutral tones of the set besides the red?

Stunning studio, and much more fitting for the flagship bulletins. Very European in style I think, and god it’s nice to see BBC News using something that’s new and fresh.

I do wish they’d have been brave and got rid of the newsroom view though, or at least used the opportunity to expand the newsroom/do something new with it.

A virtual extension of the upstairs balcony space fed into the screens would look fantastic, with the opportunity to add images relevant to the story.

I also think they could have gone for a rectangular desk rather than a horseshoe shape, it looks a little peculiar when everything else is square.

Thinking about it, a rectangular desk with a diagonal side for the guest would have looked really good IMO (a bit like the basic shape of GMB’s desk, which is ironic given how much I hate that thing!).

Agree with others it’s all rather bright too, but I’m sure they’ll tweak that - some deep blue lighting would really make it. Maybe it could even darken slightly as the program went on?

In a similar animation to the BBC News app/website promo during the Ten last night, a promotion for an iPlayer programme was displayed on the tall screen during the Six, beginning on the text version of the iPlayer logo which transformed into the icon...

The studio on the whole is very nice but I really can't understand how anybody signed off on that as the main backdrop behind the desk.  Looks awful and really cheap.

I think switching the lower part from grey to red and extending it across, then raising the "window" to the top of the frame, perhaps with the "10" reduced just to cover the window portion, would look so much better.
