A new intro when I turn on the BBC iPlayer beta app on Fire Stick. Firstly the old logo appears (like it used to a day ago), then that logo disappears and the text version of the new logo appears with a black and pink background that animates like those seen in trailers etc. for other parts of the BBC.

As was the case yesterday, the icon and the word 'iPlayer (BETA)' appear on the bottom of the menu once the app loads.

Sounds similar to the situation with iPlayer on Sky Q which has recently been updated. It’s a right mish-mash of old, interim and new.

The app icon still has the old iPlayer logo. The loading screen is now the new text-based logo. The next screen, on which you choose the user, has the 1997 BBC logo in the corner. When you pause a programme, the new BBC logo appears in pink in the corner. And when you go into the menu, you get the new iPlayer logo, complete with the new pink play icon.

What you described was exactly like the Fire Stick app was but tonight the choose user screen has now been Reithed and the BBC logo is now top centre (and the Reith one) rather than the top left corner like you described. Gradual progress incoming...

Fire Stick now updated with new icon, though only the text version with pink-black-purple background rather tthan the blocks symbol.

I'm probably late in noticing this but on the Android iPlayer app there's a different animation thing for buffering, with the 3 blocks expanding and contracting instead whatever it had before (the circle?)

Will iPlayer ever support Dolby 5.1? For me it's the one big thing they haven't nailed. Sometimes the downmix isn't that great. And especially for things like movies and dramas you do miss it.

Dolby 5.1 licences for streaming are very expensive compared to the licence for broadcasting ...
so I doubt if the BBC sees this as being (good) value for money.
this may change as those depending on emission reduces ...
- but I think we will hear (the next gen) MPEG-H before (last gen) Dolby 5.1 on Iplayer

Wonder when iPlayer's app for Apple TV will get the icon update.

The Apple TV app hasn't been updated sine 2020 which is rather staggering. By comparison, every other streaming app by the UK broadcasters has been regularly updated, if only with bug fixes etc.

And the iPlayer is now the only UK streaming service app which isn't using the new tvOS 15 video player.

Let's not even get started on the lack of subtitles on Apple TV either. Or the lack of 1080p despite it being possible and rolled out to a lot of smart TVs.

I would plead them to get it together but let's not expect much of the BBC, they're only a start up.

Looks like the interface and logos on the Apple TV iPlayer app have finally been updated today, not yet been updated via the App Store though so still has the old app icon. Some before and after images below. Hopefully it will have a bigger update soon to bring the interface more in line with the other version on connected tv and add support for subtitles.

One thing I do miss is the customised channel backgrounds, it's a shame they removed them.

Seems they’ve also broken the search function with this latest update to the Apple TV app. Anyone else with an Apple TV experiencing similar problems?

They messed up the Cbeebies logo too, part of the i is the wrong colour on that screenshot, causing it to read as Cbeeb'es.

I'm not going to be able to unseen that now.

They've also messed up THREE, when selected it shows the text in white when it should be black if it wants to match the other platforms.
On the bright side, they've fixed the search within the app now.

I’m not sure how long this has been the case but on Virgin Media there’s a full blocks to icon animation when you load up the iPlayer.

What device/platform are you using? iPlayer supports 50fps and has done for several years.
