Very impressed - quite modern and European. That said, I really hope those cameras are not going to be frequently in shot. Really quite obstrusive and unattractive. I know that the presenters used to call the cameras 'Daleks' during the 'virtual' era, but at least they weren't taking up a significant chunk of the shot.

This does make ITV News studio look quite dated now. ITV News had the chance to change their current look when they launched the one hour Evening News, but they did nothing and kept their 2013 set design. Surely this will make ITV News consider a refresh to their own nine year old look?

The new set looks very nice, and I particularly like the fact that they've popped a mezzanine in to give the space some height. I actually did a little studio mock (not shared) for what I thought the updated Studio B could look like and I'm particularly pleased that my hunch about the huge portrait screens has turned out to be true!

The benefits of automation really did show on the preview during the One Show though - presumably the cameras were being driven manually because they were very slow and quite jerky to react to Huw and Alex moving across the set. Cameras are absolutely huge as well; I quite like seeing them in shot in Studio E and C but these are much bulkier so probably best to be out of sight for the most part.

So it seems like they have gone for a new desk that is similar to the Westminister one.



The cameras are different to the ones we are used to, but let's hope these cameras make a blooper in the future...



A new extra stand-up position which looks nice



And a large curved video wall in high definition.

This is a huge upgrade for BBC News in general. Congrats with the new set!

I think they can be used but are more for show.

I can't help but think it would be a good studio to use for the nine & 10 am simulcast as the presenters could walk around, use the touch screen for comments to illustrate the stories in new ways

I love the fact it’s a completely real physical set rather than a virtual one, because I think that’s what makes it so stunning.

Not really sure how a touchscreen, no matter how large or clear it is, adds to the overall presentation or quality of the programme...

Looks good. Screens look fantastically clean and crisp and I like the monoliths. The spiral staircase looks a little odd, and the view behind Alex when she was sat at the desk looked quite fake, but otherwise a great update.

The other general point from the One Show piece is that Alex slipping off the chair when she sat down was just the funniest thing.

I really loved Alex going to see Huw, it was like the golden days of Yvette Fielding delivering carrot cake to the Broom Cupboard.
