I'm extremely happy that we actually got nine years out of Studio E without it not being fit for purpose or looking dated. It goes to show that if a good amount of money is invested in facilities, they'll actually last a long time. No need to waste license fee money on new sets frequently anymore. Compare this to the 2000s when there was a new look and set every couple of years and the move to NBH seems like decent value for money (in terms of Studios anyway.)

Is it possible that Huw is in to present another version of the Ten from the new studio as a rehearsal? And maybe Reeta did the Six in the same way? I'm probably way off the mark, though.

I wondered that - it’s quite common in broadcast to do an as-live pilot just before you launch something big / new / untested, essentially the show as it would be if it was being broadcast just not actually broadcast.

I’d thought a new set and titles would all launch on the same day like in 2008. 2023 is a fair bit away

Yes, I thought I was odd that Huw was presenting on a Friday and at 6 O'Clock as well so maybe Huw is doing a rehearsal ahead of next week.

Yes, the BBC certainly got their money's worth with the NBH sets and they really did benefit from the additional investment and construction/piloting time that the original NBH sets got. But I think it is difficult to draw too many comparisons with sets from 20/25 years ago simply because what a news set is changed so drastically in the mid-2000s. The cost of the 1999 N6 set, for instance, was likely a small fraction of the cost of the 2013 Studio E set as there was no comparable investment in technologies. Those sets were cheaper, more basic and more disposable and so it was easier to justify a new set. Building new sets was also quicker and involved less disruption - some of those pre-Barco sets were installed in a day or two!
