Dan Walker joins 5 News

Suspect it's only a short term thing for a bit of promotion (C5 aren't above changing programme titles after all) but feels like a double slap in the face for Claudia considering she was overlooked for the main role. I can't see Dan really bringing in additional viewers, and that promo really couldn't be duller and possibly illustrates where 5News is going wrong - with a suited presenter sat behind the desk it's lost it's USP.

Yes you’d think if you invested in Dan, you would be better going down the Football Focus style of presentation rather than Breakfast.

I thought they said he was doing 4 nights a week when they announced him.

No mention of it in the press release, and I don’t remember them announcing his days tbh. Would make sense given that’s what he’s been doing on Breakfast, and will need some time to film his other projects for C5 as he doesn’t do Sundays

If I were Channel Five, and had just spent a lot of money poaching him from the Beeb, I don't think I'd expect him on his first day to present another programme as well.

Of course he’s just a guest! 
However, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine him taking over GMB in a couple of years time, with an Adrian Chiles-style deal to present sport. And not hard to imagine him getting bored at C5 News quite quickly. It’s well made but will never give him the platform he enjoyed on BBC One. Also his pet projects may well tank (a lot of these golden handcuff deals never quite work when they’re not “entertainers”).
