They surely don't need a new breakfast show. New Day is easily their best try at a breakfast show although it definitely needs a revamp.

I wish they could bring the two hosts back into the same studio permanently. It feels very cold when Berman is in NY and Keilar in DC on separate little boxes on screen. Same for the weekend editions.

I 100% agree with you. Seeing Erica Hill alongside John Berman in the same studio this morning just made sense.

I'm pretty sure he'll be scrapping that nonsense. It makes no sense at all for New Day and doesn't work be in weekdays or at the weekend. In fact, I don't think we've ever seen a New Day weekend co-hosted from the same studio since Boris Sanchez got the gig. 

IMO Jeff Bezos made a number of anchor appointments before he was forced to leave that were more than questionable. There are way too many anchors on Sunday's for example and one or two of them could do with the big heave-ho.

  They want to really hold on to Chris Wallace, that's interesting and different, I think it works a little better than trying nightly since it could be bumped more because of events. 

  Hmm, not sure it's a smart idea trying to make your own 60 minutes like show on the same night 60 minutes is on, unless they aren't too worried about how it does, I'm not against the idea of a CNN News Magazine, but maybe Friday Night would work, since the other ones on are focused on crime those nights.  

  Funny HLN's morning show has stayed the same so long because it works,  I'm not sure they should rock the boat on mornings too much, keep the New Day name.  They SHOULDN'T copy Morning Joe, that would be redundant and would remind me of the time they tried to do that with Starting Point.  It would be a shame they drop Berman, unless he's getting promoted, I'm not a  New Day viewer, I prefer Morning Express, but he's good anchor and host. I wonder if Licht is trying to really just de-Zuckerfy CNN and New Day is a target because that's the show with the most Zucker imprint on it.

I guess if Zain had a proper set, her show would be more watchable. Same with Julia. 

Of course Christina is just filling in Hala's slot now, Bianca did it yesterday. I expect most London presenters will go through it eventually. Isa has settled in nicely in her morning hour so I don't expect her to move. Max would be the obvious choice, especially with his never debuting, ''new'' show.

I agree that Zain and Julia need to begin broadcasting from proper sets. CNN New York has 7 studios to choose from and keeping them in broom cupboards just isn’t acceptable. CNNi needs cohesion and jumping around the globe from flash set to flash set while production and news gathering still happens inside CNN Center doesn’t make sense. Even domestic could do with a return to CNN Center during the daytime. Surely it’s easier to have everyone producing the news under one roof.

It seems as if Domestic is looking like a NY/DC-centric operation whereas CNNI is appearing to be a London-centric operation.  It would amaze me that the senior CNNI management's main offices aren't in London given that that is the where broadcasts get priority nowadays.

CNN are doing midterm primary election coverage from tomorrow night at 7pm ET. (12am Wednesday) Also on the schedule next week as well so we might see more of this once there is evening with many headline grabbing primaries.

Should point out there is a presentational impact of this with The Situation Room coming from Studio D instead of Studio A/B.

I simply cannot believe they are still using that awful annoying election theme which is well beyond it's sell by date. Two more years of listening to that! SCREAM!

I will disagree with you on that actually. Maybe it's just me but it's just so iconic to listen to when it comes to election time and I can never get over 'KEY RACE ALERT'. Feels a bit different with Wolf not doing it now and Jake Tapper being the main presenter. I have nothing wrong with Jake presenting but I already miss Wolf making the big announcements.

Jake replacing Wolf reminds me of Huw Edwards replacing David Dimbleby.  Jake is CNN's version of Huw when it comes to election night coverage.

CNN's New chief wants the network to curb the use of BREAKING NEWS banner. Especially for stories that are old. Seems like he hasnt put in place a hard mandate against using it. Seems like he needs to bring down the hammer on the use of it. Its waaay too over used in cable newser. Under Zuckers regime it was particularly overused to a disgusting degree

Ever since Trump won, CNN has been in one, big, desperate BREAKING NEWS mode and it's good to see them trying to scale it down and bring some meaning to that phrase again.

There was a very good piece in the NY Times looking at the new direction Chris Licht is taking CNN. Fewer breaking news banners is the major change (highlighted here earlier), less involvement in the day to day news agenda and less micromanagement, and a renewed focus on breakfast news. CNN is also making a renewed shift into China, which might bode well for an expansion of the International network (could we see programming out of HK again?)

A bit of disquiet amongst staff who were very loyal to Jeff Zucker, but I think CNN can only benefit from these changes.

Seems more likely that more sponsored programs venturing into the Chinese market rather than any proper news coverage. Though of course I'd hope for the latter.

How can they possibly expand into China when half the time CNN is taken off air by the Chinese Government. This makes no sense at all.

Rather ironically, I think KLS's segment was from the actual HK studio!
