BBC 4 HD, & Cbeebies HD to move to PSB3

As some were hoping it's now confirmed when COM 7 closes at the end of this month, BBC 4 HD and Cbeebies HD will move to PSB 3 (aka the 'main' HD mux)

To be honest,  there's so much simulcasting with either BBC 1 or 2, it's largely academic

It will still be HD on iPlayer and anyways, many people don't watch BBC News, let alone the HD channel.

They could probably squeeze the two onto PSB3 as there is just about room but glad they've prioritised BBC4/CBeebies. I thought with the news last week they might not bother with finding a new hone for BBC4 HD.

CBeebies is staying so they might as well take BBC Four with it for now.

The idea regarding BBC 4 and CBBC remains just a suggestion. If you've ever dealt with the BBC they move at less than glacial speed, so nothing was going change as a result of last week's announcements

Also, the "closure" of BBC4/CBBC will be years away anyway, so the relatively straightforward re-plumbing to move it onto the other mux seems like a no brainer to me. Good news for those of us who either never had COM7 and 8 or had it taken away a couple of years ago.

The title of the article says "Changes to HD viewing on Freeview". Why would it mentions other viewing possibilities if its only on Freeview? If it was a broadcast message then I would understand but it quite clearly states that it is for Freeview.

By that logic, an article entitled "Changes to BBC Radio Countyshire on Medium Wave" wouldn't tell listeners about the other platforms still available once the plug is pulled on medium wave?

I think it's safe to assume that BBC News HD will continue on other platforms. Also presumably if/when BBC4 and CBBC close then BBC News HD would return to Freeview, using this capacity.

I think it's safe to assume that BBC News HD will continue on other platforms.  Also presumably if/when BBC4 and CBBC close then BBC News HD would return to Freeview, using this capacity.

I would hope that by the middle of this decade HD will be the de-facto norm for  all platforms, and the remaining few SD channels stuffed out of way at the bottom of the EPG, (unlike today where the exact opposite is the case!)

I’m not technical in the slightest but surely a HD stream requires more bandwidth than a SD feed?
