Disney+

Their most recent advertising seems to eschew promoting Star in favour of a “Stories you’d expect - stories you wouldn’t” tag line (typically a classic Walt Disney story is the “story you’d expect” followed by a Star title as the “story you wouldn’t”).

Very interesting news from the US, Dancing with the Stars is moving from ABC to Disney+ where it will still air live.

Interesting.
I partially expected them to add it to the UK/worldwide service, but never expected that they’d remove it from ABC in the states.

I think ABC taking more NFL Monday night games is the driving factor.

Disney has announced the ad-lite version of Disney+ will air 4 minutes per hour of ads when streaming, and will not include any kind of ads for alcohol beverages and political campaigning. It additionally plans to ban advertising rival streaming offerings, according to Variety. There will be no ads allowed in Kids Mode.

Hmm, that's interesting. 4miins an hour? Might be interesting to see how it breaks down. I think Freevee has more "breaks" but often one or two adverts, but its very reminiscent of the American model of presentation. Wonder if Disney+ will be the same?

Its ironic when the new Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers film on Disney+ uses clips from the original Rescue Rangers show, presents them on a 4:3 TV... when the actual show itself is only available in a cropped format on Disney+.

Ohhh Earworm Alert!

Seriously though I’m considering subbing to Disney Plus and appreciate the opinions on the service.

The navigation is crap to be honest. If you're used to the sideway scrolling that Prime and Netflix (and Freevee) use, then that's only in use on the home screen with the stuff they want to promote to you. Once you get into Movies, or TV or whatever its just a load of square boxes that you have to go down for and its basically a pain in the arse. Star uses sideway scrolling but doesn't seem to want to show you everything.

Better if you know what you want by searching. And use your Watchlist.

They have released a Blu-Ray of the show in the US that's in 4:3. It's region free and Amazon UK have it for sale:

Does seem ridiculous you have to pay for this to get the show properly when you already pay a D+ subscription though.

I'm aware thanks that it's been released on Blu-Ray in the proper aspect ratio, and according to this:
https://dejaview.news/why-wont-disney-pl...ect-ratio/

Disney XD airings have the right aspect ratio. So the "issue" is pretty much unique to Disney+. Quite why they insist on doing this I really do not know. it took months for them to bow to a toggle option with regards to Simpsons, so it'll probably take years for anything else.

Poor navigation is a real bugbear of mine. I’ll have to think about it.

It’s still a million times better than the Prime Video interface. I know of no other streamer that makes you work as hard to find content. Netflix has the interface down to a tee, of course.

God yes, scrolling through endless screens, with no way to sort the content, so you don't know how much is left or if what you want is even on there

I'd suggest actually trying it out yourself, I think that would be much better than relying on the opinion of others in this case!
