BBC Online: 2021 Rebrand
I think having a 'home' icon was the original plan, this is what it looks like from the introduction video:

This looks far more polished than what they've previously had. Although, I'm not sure how I feel about an all black homescreen.

The test site at https://www.test.bbc.co.uk/weather has the new header plus icons

Maybe the home link needs a house next to it to pull it in line?

The test log in page is quite cool - the icons all animate…

Interesting how it had a different icon instead of the burger menu which seems to have been rolled out. I’d be amazed if the home screen ever looks like that with the embedded sounds and iPlayer links.

I agree, and I hate the fact that there are now 2 burger menus not in any kind of alignment, it’s really quite janky and unpolished.

Recon this would be better with the burger menu showing the content for the page you’re on (just realised it might not be relevant on the home page) and the icons sitting beneath replacing one of the hamburgers?

Looks like the header has been tweaked today on the test weather website. The 'home' link is now properly aligned with the other links, though is currently still without its own icon.

Looks much better and I don't thing it needs a home icon really. One thing I don't understand is why this isn't live on the main site!

They are probably doing internal testing, and preparation for other changes - and so its in "staging" until its deemed ready to go live.

And the code already supports the dark theme for iPlayer et al. The icons look much better with the dark theme on my computer, weirdly enough.

I much prefer the dark skin, I think the new logo looks way better in white than black

The updated global header appears to have now gone live on the main website.

The icons work really well with the new menu bar, but I really don't understand why these changes have to be so ridiculously incremental. Like, even if you were going down an incremental path, this is just insane - I just can't see any justifiable reason why the two recent changes to the menu bar happened at different times.
The icons are now live on the BBC site.

Also for the first time purple Bitesize logo has been appeared, although not sure for its section of BBC Website itself, which still use orange colour for Bitesize.
Unrelated to the icon stuff - I kinda want the UK BBC website and the international BBC.com to match...
boredom makes you do things

Well as nobody should be able to ever see both, why!?
