They can’t possibly confirm Ukraine yet because I cannot imagine countries being willing to send a delegation if come next May their countries travel Advice is still do not travel to Ukraine. The best EBU can say for Ukraine is they hope they can host but they will assess the situation in July or August.

Realistically it cannot be Ukraine. The planning of the contest practically has to start from tomorrow. They can’t wait to see if the situation improves in Ukraine, it will be too late to organise a large scale contest months down the line.
Expectations will say the BBC should host it given our placing. I think the BBC would be silly to turn it down if they were given first choice in hosting, given how big an audience share it has given them - a home contest would undoubtedly draw in an even bigger audience.

To be honest, I think the UKs placing is kind of irrelevant I imagine it’s within in the Ukrainian gift to decide who hosts it for them. Although the placing does give them another reason to chose the UK.

I think if it is outside Ukraine, it’ll probably be a Ukrainian themed show possibly with Ukrainian hosts/acts, possibly produced by the Scandinavians in possibly the O2 arena.

I also think it’s more likely to be in London than of the UK had won, where I imagine it’s be in one of the nations or Manchester.

I think it is good that Ukraine has shown a desire to host rather than instantly say they can't, which they could have easily done. Morale wise, it will be a boost for the Ukrainian population to see a potential light at the end of the tunnel.

However, realistically, it is unlikely they will be able to host unless the war ends soon and a concerted effort it made to get the host city back up and running. I think the government will appreciate that and privately come up with a backup plan, which I think is realistically a co-hosting arrangement with the UK.

I can see a situation like this. These are the scenarios:
1. Ukraine manages, within a year, to end the war with Russia, the country rebuilds, and they host Eurovision in Mariupol. That is an overly optimistic hope.
2. Ukraine is safe enough to host it on Western Ukraine, but the costs of that will be likely very high.
3. Another country hosts it: UK or Poland. Ukranian hosts and crew produce the show, its very much their show, but in another country.
4. Another country outright hosts it.

There's absolutely no way Ukraine will be hosting next year. The EBU will no doubt announce this today and invite bids so they can get on with the organisation as quickly as possible.

Historically if the winner can't host the second placed country has first refusal, and then down the table until someone accepts.  It is 40 odd years though since it last happened.

Frankly sentiment may have played a big part in determining who won but it'll need to be put aside in determining who stages the contest.   I doubt anything final will be announced imminently other than perhaps confirmation of who will host if Ukraine isn't able to do so and a date for a final decision to be made.

Manchester would be the favourite I'd have thought, but there's quite a few other arenas large enough to host it: Leeds, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Birmingham

If I'm not mistaken, the host arena is used for a full month during Eurovision. I don't know if the busiest arenas in the UK could host it. Ironically, the only showed currently announced at The O2 next may is Maneskin.

Yes and it’s for this reason I don’t think The O2 would want to hold it. The arena’s a driver for all of the food and drink venues in the dome as well as the new half empty shopping centre and I can’t really see them being up for something that won’t have audience footfall in it for at least three weeks of their time there. Especially when they know they’ll easily be able to sell the arena to countless other shows in the
same time period.

Manchester more likely I think if available. The new arena won't be ready but that could be a driver for the Manchester Arena to get the publicity as a world class venue capable of hosting such events ahead of nature new competition for events in the city - though the Co-op Arena makes it sound like a small venue above a corner shop.

Getting ahead of ourselves though, even if practically it seems the most likely outcome.

I had a look at Google Maps and I can't see any arenas or event venues, Largest buildings I see are shopping malls.

There is Azovmash Arena but that only has 3,000 seats.
