The Games

I was looking forward to this but there was something missing. The original on C4 had the athletes village aspect of it if I remember rightly (bit big brother like) which followed the nightly/daily action of the contestants living in the now demolished Don Valley stadium in Sheffield. I can’t remember it having pre recorded events like this time round. They also had the initial fitness test. I remember Pat Sharp going flat out on a rowing machine.

I remember the first C4 series getting a bit of stick, saying it only got recommissioned because of Bobby Davro’s belly flop dive.

I hope it gets a second series. I think I’d have it an hour a night only, live events and maybe stretch it over 7 nights. Oh and bring back Steve Bunce as a pundit.

Yes - and the Big Brother aspect padded out the hour far better as well. I never remember feeling short changed first time around by the actual events just taking a few minutes of the hour.

I watched it last night and it seemed chaotic in places, Freddie Flintoff and Alex Scott who you’d think would be good live presenters struggled whereas Holly was cool as a cucumber.

I never watched the C4 version, so can't comment on the "Big Brother" aspects of the original show, but I felt they could have done more with the padded elements, such as pre-recorded interviews with the celebrities which looked at their journey to being fit to compete.

Another aspect was that I felt you had to be invested into watching ITV. I had to Google most of the celebs as I had no idea who they were. From what I can gather, there were soap stars from Emmerdale and Corrie, Mel B's daughter and somebody from the reality format Love Island, which I've never watched.

Only Christine McGuinness who I know from a recent documentary her husband Paddy did on Autism and ITV News presenter Lucrezia Millarini were recognisable to me, although I suspect Millarini would have been another shrug shoulders person for an audience that doesn't watch the news.

I caught a few minutes of this programme last night, mrs lobster decided to watch it. I’m pretty sure a morgue has more atmosphere than this programme, flintoff seems to have had a charisma bypass, and the show just feels sloppy. Not a great piece of Saturday night tv, imo.
trust me, I'm a lobster.
