Well the report on the 6 tonight about the Housing & Planning reforms set out in the Queen's Speech yesterday, demonstrates nicely how after 23 years, UK-wide BBC News still hasn't fully come to terms with devolution....... (Roll eyes)

It is poor, but, to be fair, not an issue specific to the BBC. Finding a Westminster-based political journalist who understands the British political system is a real challenge. They might be good on the ins-and-outs of the Westminster soap opera, but most wouldn't know where to start if you asked them to explain the basics of devolution, proportional representation or - heaven forbid - the Northern Irish political institutions. And don't get me started on the quality of their election analysis.

When you're the BBC's home affairs editor, it should be part of the job description to know whether the topic you are covering is devolved. 
A quick search of the websites for the Scottish & Welsh Parliaments, and the Northern Ireland Assembly took me 5 minutes tonight to find out that Housing & Communities and Planning Law is devolved to Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. On the Welsh Parliament website, it's competencies are listed on the homepage. There's no excuse.

I'm amazed that he BBC still obviously do not make their London based journalists, reporting on UK-wide matters, have mandatory training on devolution.

I absolutely agree. The problem might be systemic across all of the British media, but, as you say, there is really no excuse in this day-and-age and the BBC does have additional responsibilites as the national broadcaster. And the thing is, this is by no means the first time it has happened and every time it does they get complaints - you would really think they'd've actioned some sort of remedy by now.

It was a report about housing & planning reforms solely in England, that made absolutely no mention of this fact in the headline sequence, introduction or in the main report. So a report just about England was presented as a report about the UK. Someone watching in Wales, Scotland or NI would've thought that the report also applied to them when it did not.

Eh I don't get why BBC considers Eurovision as "breaking news"... I mean they ain't the US cable news who loves to slap "breaking news" on literally everything so I'd expect they had stricter editorial guidance on using this banner~

Some customisation is needed on the alerts. Too much gets pushed from feature stories to the daily Ukraine briefing..
