Has there been cases of Sky or BBC cars being attacked within the UK?  I have never actually seen such a car but I know there used to be vans.

I thought it was more of a case of broadcasters just selling off their cars etc as they now rent them or they are redundant due to new technology.

This GB News car I am sure is more for advertising than any practical purpose.

even leased vehicles may be branded (think utilities companies who might lease their fleet of vans and then refresh every X years). It's just a vinyl wrap, easily applied and removed. Not sure technology makes cars redundant, the reporters do need something to drive around in, even if it doesn't necessitate a full ENG sat truck.

News camera cars are a prime target for criminals - there's been at least five window-smash and grabs in "secure" London car parks this year. Mostly freelancers' own vehicles but at least one unbranded company vehicle has been broken into. Sticking a big corporate logo on the side is basically a sign saying "expensive equipment in here" - obviously it's a bit different with an OB truck or tender which would require something a bit more significant than a hammer to get inside.

Less about journalist safety but disruptive and unpleasant nonetheless.

I was down at where they do the BBC News when on location in Belfast yesterday (all equipment was still set up.) There was a satellite truck without any BBC branding on it which I thought was strange, would this be why?

There were also people at it, were they doing anything from there yesterday?

It's not entirely that, but as has been suggested elsewhere you don't want to advertise expensive kit in an unattended vehicle.
We used magnetic logos on Sat trucks as they were leased (sometimes for a specific event).
You might need also vehicle 'badges' to make access easier to a big OB event just that little bit easier. We often had a 'village' of pop up work areas and that certainly helped because I knew which one I was working from.
