A shame we don’t see them utilising TalkSport is this Sports show? Could be a simulcast but I guess TS has different sport every weekend so hard to get a consistent show time.

It's definately a synergy they could be utilising, they have the  sports departments of The Times and The Sun to provide content and resources too.

Maybe that's an idea for the future should Talk TV be a success.. TalkSportTV?

This is what bugs me about TalkTV, it has the potential to link up with The Times, The Sun (heaven forbid), TalkSport and Virgin Radio. It would appeal to me more if they had a bit more from The Times and TalkSport on there. Whereas we have 20 hours of TalkRadio TV, and 4 hours of an actual channel, if you include the Piers repeat. TalkRadio in its current form has never appealed to me, if I’m not going to listen, why would I watch?

If anything a bank holiday is actual an opportunity to pick up viewers with a shorter than normal C4 News, ITV News airing earlier and BBC News had a shorter teatime bulletin too.

In it's defence I would echo that it's a bank holiday so not going to be a good day for that sort of show.

I expect it will pick up as time goes on - it (The News Desk) is a decent show and should appeal to many who don't like Farage.

Piers's show....I don't yet know what it's trying to be so it's hard to predict where it will go ratings-wise.

Piers's show is trying to be the old Fox News show The O'Reilly Factor, more than it's trying to be its replacement, Tucker Carlson Tonight.  Bill O'Reilly had some noteriety pre-Fox News from his time as host of Inside Edition, and Piers is trying to do something similar here.

The News Desk has been compared to The Fox Report, but I think it shares more commonalities with Special Report on Fox News.

If anything a bank holiday is actual an opportunity to pick up viewers with a shorter than normal C4 News, ITV News airing earlier and BBC News had a shorter teatime bulletin too.

I just don’t think there is an appetite or for extra straight News programmes. Channel 5 only really does News because it’s a requirement for example and attempts to put News programmes aimed at different audiences on BBC Three/BBC Four have always fallen flat, so I just don’t see where The News Desk is going to find it’s audience. But News UK might just be happy to have a loss making programme as a credibility thing.

I don’t think suddenly going to into Time Radio content in the week would work. But some programming at weekends might, likewise some talkSPORT shows seems sensible.

Of course it’s already happened for a time the drive and evening programmes were shown on a fixed slot daily on a random satellite channel. With what was possibly the first example of radio studio decorated for TV.

I don't think it helps that the potential audience for The News Desk don't realise it's on, so who's left? The daytime audience of TalkRadio who aren't exactly the most interested in a 60 minute straight news programme.

As Jon mentions, News UK will be doing it for the credibility rather than being a ratings driven bulletin. It's no different to Sky putting out a daily Climate Change bulletin, it's about raising the profile of the company for their positive activities than what their tabloid newspaper does.

The News Desk does not seem to be gaining any traction.  It's dedicated Twitter account currently has less than 2,000 followers.

You can credit the show with generating its own stories, but I suspect it's partly viewers not knowing what to expect.  Tom Newton-Dunn is largely known as a Westminster lobby journalist. When I saw the panel for the show (Adam Boulton etc), I assumed it would be something very Westminster focused.

I think a big part is it's essentially an hour of rolling news. It's the equivalent of the 7 o'clock slot on BBC News having it's own Twitter account, you can imagine it wouldn't get many followers. The problem for TalkTV is it's not exactly known for rolling news so the audience goes elsewhere which is a shame as it's a well produced show. Starting cold from a radio simulcast also can't be helping things.

It just shows that throwing money at a good set does not really impact much on views if you have no substance at all.

But there is substance? I think the content is good and it’s a well put together news show. Just a shame not enough people know about it.

I notice they had an exclusive last night about Windsor Castle which was then covered on the front of todays Sun, all with credit to TalkTV.

I guess you could say there is substance in terms of the individual shows, but to me the channel as a whole is very flat and apart from the odd few hours it's just a radio station which is not really a TV channel and defeats the whole point of TV. Kind of the opposite with GB News having a radio station which is just audio from the TV channel. Although Talk TV is a little better in terms of at least they are showing something on the screen which is adapted. GB News is just spitting out dodgy audio on the radio.

talkRADIO as it used to be, looks unsuitable for Talk TV. As said before on here, Times Radio would be so much better, with the odd talkRADIO show thrown in.

I think mixing Times Radio with Talk TV would be far more jarring. I think the radio content is pretty in line with prime time schedule.

I know this forum has a natural inclination towards its news channels/bulletins but there's simply no market for the News Desk surely - i'm not getting the love for it? It's pretty dull and offers absolutely nothing new or better than the half dozen other highly quality options on at the same time (including ITV and Channel 4)? As stated it's either there to give the channel an anchor and prestige or it'll be given a few months and ditched for an opinion programme.
