Launch TalkTV
I wouldn't say it was entertainment, more current affairs. If the comparison is genre based then it should be compared with the factual programmes on other channels. How does he fare against Panorama or Tonight for example

They're in the disaster zone after three days. What do they do now?
There's not really anything positive you can say about any of those figures...

I do wonder if they'd be better shifting everything forward by an hour, so it runs 6 til 9pm?

I've given the channel a fair go this week, but never The Talk because there's other stuff I want to watch at 9pm.
I'd probably go the other way myself and push Piers to 9pm (especially as Sky now have formats there and BBC News have a presenter led show themselves) and perhaps The Talk to 10pm.

The ratings drop was inevitable. It'll settle around 100k which for what the channel is isn't a bad return, but just shows they're significantly overly investing in the likes of Piers though. Of course though with Murdoch it's never about a return on ratings when it comes to the news media - it's about influence.

Indeed the figures are appalling

"Across TalkTV’s other shows, Tom Newton Dunn’s The News Desk crashed to just 15,300 without the star attraction of the PM, and Sharon Osbourne has fallen below five figures to a paltry 9,700"

As I put in an earlier post the slick presentation masks the content which really is poor and is almost an afterthought around Piers who isn't quite a good on his own as he'd like to think.

With Piers I don't think spending the first 2 episodes on the Trump interview was the best move but with more daily news topics and maybe the addition of a co-anchor this show should be fine. Who thought Sharon Osborne and Jeremy Kyle would be something anyone would want to watch however is beyond me. As a quick fix I'd drop this show immediately, move Piers to 9pm and have another hour of Newsdesk. I'd also begin development of a nightly political show to sit in the 10pm slot, Matt Chorley would make a good host.

Good point. Or does The Talk feed better from the Newsdesk? They could change the last 15 minutes of that and have the Talk basically discussing the issues from the previous hour?

I do think the Newsdesk is the strongest programme, I have really enjoyed the mix of stories and the way it is presented so far this week.

9pm for Morgan is risky considering Osbourne is not far off oblivion in that hour.    I expect the 23 hours of radio simulcasts are getting near to zero ratings now. Even on launch night, McAndrew was only getting 6,300.
Awful ratings when you consider the mega salaries that must be involved here. Just an expensive vanity project.

If you didn't believe the conservative opinion market was saturated already, these figures show that there are only so many people who share that type of opinion to go around two channels.

I think the only radio station which could make this work is Global's LBC which has a broader range of opinionated presenters, but do it in a way that isn't full on extreme speech content, but still generates decent click bait clips for social media.

Presentation wise, it's still streets ahead of GB News, but the fact they've decided to simulcast a radio station that is still underperforming compared to LBC and then attempted to bring over Fox News formats that haven't transferred well to a UK audience.

I think News UK will plough on with the channel for now, but they need to decide if they'll revamp the 7-10 output or tweak the radio simulcasts.

True, but it's not influencing if people aren't watching! The big advantage News UK has is that it has popular products to help promote and shore up new ones and deep enough pockets to keep them going until they are a success. It's early days.

The Talk feels like the filler of the block hence why it rates low.  Personally I think that would do better at 7pm then the other two shows pushed back an hour but ultimately the real issue is the channel basically starts cold at 7pm.   Talk Radio may be cheap filler but ultimately the three hour made for TV block suffers without a daytime block behind it.

Presentation wise I think for the types of programmes they're both doing GB News is better. Wootton's show suits a laid back, not brightly lit, lounge style setting, compared to the overlit, behind a desk style of The Talk on TalkTV.

The best of all was Southern TV's Houseparty, fifty odd years ago! A mixture of soft and hard areas, which was similar to GB News at the start when they utilised different areas in the same programme.

GB News does do that now sometimes.
Wootton and Dolan move around the studio during the show (the atual movement is off-camera).
Some other presenters do as well - Nana Akua did it on her show the other, she was at the 'Breakfast Bar' then later was on the sofa.

I will say that the presentation on Morgan's show is very slick and impressive.
Yet somehow I prefer the way GB News do it which is obviously far less slick.
A personal thing I guess.

In terms of how Morgan's show looks, as a layman I cannot fault the professionalsim and skill behind it. A great job has been done there.

I'm also a fan of the Newsdesk show, both how it looks and the presenter. Comes across very well and yet an obvious contrast from the style of Morgan's show.

Someone else said it would be better for the Newsdesk show to have two hours and Morgan at 9am. I'd agree with that.
I thought the The Talk worked better without Jeremy Kyle I think he comes across as a bit too intense and not that knowledgable on most things. However I do think he’s good on his own show from the bits I’ve seen.

The trouble with the News Desk is, although the production values and presentation are very good it’s not really offering anything distinctive. So it’ll struggle in that regard.
