While a lot of the tv output has been of a fixed camera on the radio presenter behind the mic, I've been impressed with the use of video clips during the simulcast.

Not managed to watch anything since a small slice of JHB. Is it clips of Piers' interview or other stuff too?

At the start of the 2pm hour of Ian Collins show they showed clips of interviews on the station, Lindsay Hoyle's statement from yesterday and a bodycam clip credited to the Sun of someone being arrested to illustrate their phone-in topic about violent crime.
Are the news bulletins the same on TV as radio?

The few I've listened to are.  Pre-launch the TV and radio were different.
What is especially intriguing is that Talk TV hasn't been subject to the Twitter witch-hunt that GB News was, despite the Murdoch backing. No requests to companies to boycott advertising, etc. Is that because we're out of lockdown this time round and people, frankly, have better things to do, or is there another reason?

I dare say by calling themselves Talk TV it means they can more easily say that programmes such as Pier's are primarily 'talk' (or shout) programmes, as opposed to a channel that has News in it's name. It may also help that most of the day it's essentially Talk Radio, which has already been in existence for several years.

Very interesting point and one that intrigues me too.   I've never seen so much love for one of Uncle Rupert's ventures!

Talk TV, at least the new 7-10pm part, isn't overtly right-wing/far right and pro-hard brexit. Nor is it providing the comedy gold for viral clips GB News did.

Possibly because TalkTV has been less forthright about its agenda than GBN was at launch.

I have to say I caught a clip of it earlier and found it a bit disconcerting having Julia Hartley-Brewer peering over her glasses at the camera and only using them to look down at her notes. Obviously can't help her eyesight but surely there is a better workaround than that.
Having looked a bit harder and the graphics and the confirmation from Newscaststudio that they were done in the US at FOX Creative you can clearly see the influence from FOX Weather. Fox Weather was the last full network launch. Clearly FN Creative has capacity to handle the work from all these networks. Because FNC/Business clearly has the most work, because each show has a different look, it was likely not a big deal to re-colour some existing things and re-jig sizes and such to make it work. Because basically every show on Talktv has the same graphics. I just remember when FNC started it wasnt as tabloidy and it slowly got ramped up over the years. Also since FNC is known for changing up its graphics fairly frequently it will be interesting to see how long these last. As its just one graphics package for the entire network, maybe the frequency of change will be much quicker. Bears watching.

Funny how FOX graphics typically gets a universal thumbs down on here....hmmm. Surprised by the overall general "positive" or neutral view of the graphics even though its made by the same Americans at FNC in NYC, who dont have the best creative track record. Anyway..... you can see the influence from the curved lower thirds used on FOX Weather. Also you see the programme title ticker in the background graphics. And FOX loves adding little pictograms like arrows and stuff in the Live flags.

Also the slight blue gradation on the title bar

And FNC likes to use the title bar with a contrasting smaller solid colour bar directly below on most on screen graphics.

I know we arent supposed to talk about the nature of politics. I will just say that for 30+ years Murdoch and crew have perfected a formula for riling up and enraging their audience for viewership. Demonziing competitors and others that dont agree with them. GBN, in addition to the seemingly inexperienced launch team, they didnt have the technical/financial NewsGroup/FNC experience to draw from.  But especially important, the carefully crafted formula perfected to unleash a psychological and socially damaging war on the British public.

This branding definitely feels odd.

Right now we have 'Talk TV Drive', which is 'live from the TalkRadio studio', where the presenters introduce the callers with 'you're on Talk TV' despite one radio jingle at the top of the hour telling me I'm listening to TalkRadio, which was immediately followed by another one introducing the Talk TV news.

They're somehow managing to give both viewers and listeners the impression that they're watching or listening to something that wasn't quite intended for the medium they're consuming it through.

I expect they'll iron this out fairly soon - I don't think it's very sustainable.
The big difference between TalkTV and GB News is while both have a right-wing agenda, TalkTV hasn't been as in your face about it, while on GB News you're not very far from a commentator speaking against trans rights or saying something equally as controversial. There was a period when Talk Radio was strong on the anti-vaxxer movement, but as restrictions have lifted, they haven't been as bad.

Clearly after watching the last few months of GB News has helped News UK to tone down their editorial while still allowing people to have their say and have positioned themselves in-between LBC and GB News which gives them a niche in the conservative speech market.

By the fact that TalkTV is the more accessible of the two tv stations, I think this one has the better chance of gaining not just the die hard right-wingers, but also a more mainstream audience who'll dip in for some of the shows.

It probably helps that News UK launched Times Radio in 2020 which has been successful and so they've been able to use their experience with that and apply to some extent to Talk TV.

I think ialso an important factor to remember they were starting from a much stronger position than GBN where. Most of the content was already there with talkRADIO. Whereas GBN had to start from everything scratch and without the basic template. The other 20 hours of the day have had a bit of a polish but basically they had a format that worked for them already and from that they only had to create three made for TV programmes. And they also already had all the things like the news gathering and reporters at their disposal.

GB News absolutely could have been a lot better and probably for a lot less money from launch, if they’d had a better vision and someone with an eye for design. But NewsUK clearly had those things plus something that already worked well.

I think the lesson GB News should take from all this is to make things a bit more simple.

Peter Cardwell was on with Jeremy Kyle still as Talk Radio's Political Editor, is Kate McCann just in that role on the 3hr TV block?   It's all very disjointed.
Caught a bit earlier with Jeremy Kyle and I have to say he comes across very ill informed. He kept bringing up "the writer of Father Ted" in a debate on cancel culture as he apparently couldn't remember Graham Linehan's name. I have to wonder if he can't remember the guy's name how is he going to remember all the details of his 'cancellation'. Answer: he doesn't.

And then when bringing on a guest who is a journalist for ThisIsMoney, he'd never heard of the website despite it being one of the most famous websites of its kind in the UK.

JK: "What's that then?"
Guest: "It's a financial website providing consumer advice"
JK: "Is that yours then?"
Guest: "Er... no, it's owned by Associated Newspapers..."
