That's quite a lot of them Wink
And seems like there's a design choice of making “NEWS” the same width as the blocks, then every other division using the stacked style adopt the same font size (hence SPORT is slightly wider than the blocks). Maybe the News is actually the center part in designing the wordmarks?

[Edit] Post updated to fix the broken links and added (West) Midlands to the list.
Now on TVTalk, Pres Café and DeviantArt. Goodbye to all that, TVLF.

That's just coincidence. The stacked versions of the logos that have icons all have the same size type.

Are they any plans to update the ticker area etc? lower third I believe it's called. I personally think the new logo does not look settled in the current design of the ticker etc. If they re-design, the BBC logo needs to be bigger like CNN have and take prominence.

Clearly as others have stated, the logo is too small when it in its new form. These graphics were I assume designed for the old one, so are now outdated and need scrapping.

The boxed logo looks better as an icon than it does on screen. No surprise when it's a logo designed not to be trapped in a box.

I take it the regions got the update too in the style seen last week on Look North?

Yeah Look North with a random bbc news box blocking peoples heads now on the bottom left.

They have indeed and I think the regions' title card looks better now but slapping the box logo over the rest of the titles seems odd.

It's like they've tried to reverse the change which was to say it was 'Look North/Midlands today from BBC News' so it's now 'BBC Look North' again (as seen on the end of the Midlands Today lunchtime bulletin below) but we still need to have BBC News there somewhere.

Of course, in typical BBC consistency style, BBC Look North Newcastle had the new BBC blocks on the titles...

...but the old BBC blocks on the aston and headline text at lunchtime.

Wales Today had the old blocks on the titles and the ending box, but new logo on the lower thirds, Scotland fared better and so did NI except they forgot to update the DOG at the top right  Huh

Just checking now and Wales Today has the updated astons but old logo on the titles and screen in studio. Reporting Scotland managed all new logos - Newsline nearly did but the (completely unnecessary) BBC Newsline DOG is the old logo.

Checked the main English regions too and looks like most have managed it. Any reason why Midlands Today might be 40 seconds shorter than the other regions though?

Quite a lot of them are currently doing promos for their Make a Difference Awards after bulletins.

I would agree that it's a bit frustrating that this change, that looks fairly simple, couldn't have happened back in October. On the other hand, comments like 'all this time, for that?' implies that it's been 6 solid months of work by teams of 50+ to swap the blocks over. That's obviously not true. I mean, this was never pitched as a big, exciting, cutting-edge change. In fact, it wasn't pitched at all. There's also the usual over-the-top comments here where people seem to be oddly angry at what is a simple change of logo that most people won't notice.

As I say, I agree that an October swap would have been great, but it's also a subtle change and they've clearly gone for a subtle rollout. As I've said elsewhere, that's a valid, acceptable plan too. It's not a perfect comparison as it involves franchises and physical items being changed, but Burger King announced a (beautiful) new look more than a year ago – but I've almost never seen it 'in the wild'. It's not a case of laziness, lack of pride, incompetence or anything else – it's a deliberate move. It's very hard to judge and understand these plans if you're not aware of all the details of them.

Having said all of that, the BBC has always been a massively inconsistent (almost comically) organisation on the branding front. I don't know why, and I don't think it's always very helpful. They did a great job in 1997 (and it's worth saying that that would have been at huge cost and in the context of a much smaller company) – but that was probably a total blip in an otherwise consistently inconsistent story.

I really don't understand why they haven't switched BBC Weather over to the new blocks logo today as well. Makes no sense.

The News brand now fits in, but Weather, which appears within or after pretty much every news bulletin still uses the Gill Sans blocks logo.  Rolleyes

I feel like Project Chameleon will be used as a case study for marketing and graphic design students in the future for how not to manage a rebranding project.

They'll have to reach the end of the rollout first. Smile

Watching South Today in SD on satellite - the new boxed logo in the titles doesn't look very good in SD; the resolution is too low so the smaller "BBC" blocks have turned into a bit of a smudged mess.
