I must admit - and I hope I'm not alone in this - I had to Google 'lido' to understand what it means.
Other than the gentleman who missed the boat at the start of the Boz Scaggs song, I'd never come across the word before. Yeah, I think it's a southern term tbh. I've heard the term before but wasn't sure what it was, and by complete co-incidence a couple months back a Flog It repeat I saw had a section on them.
I always just called them a 'swimming pool' or 'public pool' (or just 'pool') - only difference I think is a lido is outside
A lido is bigger and a different shape to an outdoor pool iirc and is normally used as a single body of water. An outdoor pool can have lanes and other installments I believe.

No, an outdoor pool by itself isn't necessarily a lido, but a lido is normally a pool with adjoining facilities such as a cafe or snack bar. Think of a lido as a whole package, rather than one part of it.
Now, do you say lido or do you say lido?

Definitely 'lido'. Only a fool would pronounce it 'lido'.

Oh we will Thistle! Thanks for the heads up!
Will be interesting to see how they look.
So we have some more info about the pool idents. They arrived on Thursday 14th April, are in the system and ready to go. Had another thought. BBC Creative mentioned 24 idents but it'll be much more when region specific idents are ready.

Looks like the first Lido ident has debuted…

Not sure it has the same impact and creativity as some of the others - nothing passing in front of the logo for example, but maybe it’ll grow on me.

The swimming goes in front of the ‘ONE’ towards the end of that clip

I think it will, given that we have a central symbol representing the channel.
Also, that digital compression there morphing the BBC Three "hands" into the swimming pool, although accidental, looks incredibly fascinating.

I'm not convinced this one works as well at all with the concept thanks to all the straight lines and a fairly bland pool location chosen. I was expecting more of the classic art deco lidos to feature which would have some of the curvature which is present in the other idents and works well with the gentle panning and the circle theme.

It's subtle but there is a splash of water that goes in front of the BBC blocks. I presume we'll also get a beach ball going in front of them on one of the other variations.
One thing I've noticed is the 3 variations were supposed to be Swim Squad, Party and Clowning Around. Looks through the lens however it seems one of these is actually Pool Empty unless someones clowning around in the background somewhere.
