No matter what your politics in Northern Ireland, what would be the issue?
Ulster Television was potentially more devisive.

That's exactly the point, UTV is bland, No one was bothered by it. No one would be bothered by ITV as a name either. However you start running into issues after that, Do you call It ITV Northern Ireland, ITV Ulster, ITV NI? all of those would result in complaints.

None of them, they'd call it ITV like literally every other region does. You don't say to someone "Hey, did you see the new Corrie episode on ITV Northern Ireland?"
Wonderfully weird.

You would more like hear, "Did you see Corrie last night on The UTV"

I personally don't know anyone who says "ITV", and certainly couldn't imagine hearing anyone ever casually just coming out with "ITV NI" or "ITV Northern Ireland" in everyday conversations.

'The UTV' is just too strong and trusted over here, but ITV is not. ITV should update the UTV promo templates, and stop making us look like a shabby half ITV/half UTV channel.

However you start running into issues after that, Do you call It ITV Northern Ireland, ITV Ulster, ITV NI? all of those would result in complaints. There are examples of this in Northern Ireland Already, The BBC Local Station in Derry/Londonderry is called BBC Radio Foyle, after the river Foyle. Never underestimate the problems you could run into when dealing with Northern Ireland Politics.

No one in the real world actually cares about this right now, the advertisers are happy, Almost everyone in Northern Ireland (and what viewers they have in the republic) views ITV and UTV as interchangeable.
There is also BBC Radios Solent and Merseyside and Humberside, so why not Foyle? There is also BBC Radio Ulster and BBC One and Two Northern Ireland.
UTV is the current local name and ITV the national brand, the same logic as is used with Central or Anglia.

If people still talk about UTV, that's understandable, as some also still talk about other regions, including ones that went off air in 1981!
I would imagine they'll be a refresh of ITV presentation at least in the autumn when ITVX launches, and perhaps idents too considering they've stopped commissioning new ITV Creates idents. That might be when a decision is made on how the UTV name is used moving forward - might survive on the news a bit longer but I think only promos being ITV branded might be the route they go in.

Going off topic here and making assumptions but might be when ITV News rebrands too, hence no significant changes when the Evening News relaunched.

It shouldn't be underestimated, but it also shouldn't be overestimated either. Derry/Londonderry is particularly contentious for obvious reasons but Northern Ireland is far more widely accepted. I don't think there would be a major issue with ITV Northern Ireland at this stage.
Recently ITV's continuity for UTV has improved after all the embarrassing cock ups when they first took over from the Belfast duo, but tonight another potentially controversial announcement has just aired.
"Hidden Northern Ireland" was introduced as "Hidden Ireland".

Also, rather bizarrely the opening titles for the programme has a randomly placed UTV logo on it. Take a look here...

Odd that they do that. However, thank you for the link as I ended up watching the whole programme as it was very interesting. Wink
Wonder if the nations will be able to add their content to ITVX when it launches.

Just noticed that UTV Life has had a bit of a revamp. New titles, graphics, theme tune and an update to the set. Last Friday’s episode was the first with the updated look:

Good spot! I didn't watch last week so had no idea. Looks much better and glad to see the UTV name still lives on!!! I thought the next rebrand of the show could have been when ITV would try and phase out the UTV branded programmes.

However, why is Pamela and guest still sat on rock hard news chairs?? For this chit chat type or show, Pamela should be lounging about on a sofa! They could even get a bit of product placement in with Pamela telling us where the sofa is from (we all know where!!).

I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it could be a two-stage rebrand. New look but still with the old name for now, then re-edit the end of title sequence in X weeks/months to have a new name (and update the drone shot of the building, as the "UTV" rooftop signage is visible. The signage would presumably be replaced if/when any full rebrand to ITV were to occur).

I thought UTV Live should be ITV News Ulster TV. UTV Life gets cancelled. Then View From Stormont uses their set.

There is absolutely no chance the name "Ulster TV" will ever ever ever be brought back!! More chance of Julian in-vision continuity coming back than the Ulster TV brand name!

As for axing UTV Life?? Why would they do that? Its surely cheap as chips to make, hits the OFCOM obligations for regional programmes, and if ITV were to start penny pinching, more expensive to make regional programmes like Rare Breed, Hidden NI, the ones where they go out filming all over NI will be binned rather than Pamela sat in the studio holding a cue card and asking a few questions to a local celeb!

Yes - if UTV Live ever gets rebranded it'll be to something generic as the BBC have with Newsline.
