A few observations to share:

Back to the Mothership:
Victor Blackwell and Alisyn Camerota anchored from Atlanta yesterday (4/5/22).


Anchors on the Ground:
Brianna Keilar, Jake Tapper, and John Vause are now anchoring on the ground in Ukraine. They replace John Berman, Don Lemon, and Hala Gorani. Jake Tapper is anchoring “The Lead” as well as “CNN Tonight”. This is the third wave of anchors covering the war in Ukraine.

Wallace on the Road:
Chris Wallace has anchored his show from Studio B in Washington, the LA studio (which has been mothballed since HLN scaled back and Newsroom LA was cancelled), and from the Reliable Sources Daily studio. Can’t share any screenshots because CNN’s app and website have an anti-screen grab feature.

That Atlanta set needed mothballing years ago. It’s terrible, looks utterly awful when so empty. Can’t bare watching New Day at the weekend or Fred’s editions of Newsroom.

CNN seemingly refuses to make any studio investments at the former CNN Center. Its really sad to see how the temple of news has fallen so far from its perch. Reduced to cobbled together bits and pieces in the old HLN studio. Whilst HLN and CNNi gets more use out of Studio 7. They still have the huge global newsroom and you'd think they'd have a live cameras positions above it as bumpers into and out of CNN Newsroom programming across the day. They seemingly just ignore it, like they are ashamed to mention or refer to it. Look at the fact that they use a view of the tiny NY newsroom on the screen on that Atlanta set instead of this:

I think was because Zucker wanted everyone close to him, since he was a very hands on guy, I'm not sure what changes with Licht in that respect, but I would love it if CNN went back to being mostly in Atlanta again, I think being more out of New York and DC would help their content.
They should update the old HLN studio oh the and old CNN International studio.

CNN is moving to Techwood at the Ted Turner Campus in Midtown. The building was sold years ago but COVID put the brakes on any move. They won't be investing in Atlanta, not with a move on the horizon. They'd be better off moving into the Newsroom at a smaller set up.

Yeah I posted that article from AJC a few years ago. They are supposed redevelop Techwood and build a new building on the campus. It seems like they may have to relocate the satellite farm on the property as well. It was sad that Zucker & Co sold their marquee property. But now that TimeWarner is being sold off from ATT and linking up with Discovery with the merger possibly going thru this week, It will be while yet before shovels hit the ground. But they wont even mention Atlanta on air or anything or even show the building or the newsroom. Its like they were even banned years ago from saying "CNN Center". I take that back they did mention it during the protests in 2020. But they anchors alternated between saying "CNN Center" and "CNN's Atlanta offices". ITs not like they dont have money to do things and its not like any new set they build cant be relocated to any new structure built at Techwood. CNN changes sets like people change their pants. Look at all the stuff they put in place for CNN+..... which I dont see lasting very long in its current form. But the image of NY Newsroom in the background of the CNN Atlanta set says an awful lot.

It sure does. A vast ghost town with hardly anyone in it. I therefore retract my idea of moving back to the Newsroom, even if a temporary measure. In fact, they never show the newsroom on air. It's always that awful tv monitor background when crossing to Atlanta. I remember when Prince died - Brooke Baldwin was on air and in some broom cupboard. She'd gone down to Atlanta to visit family and hosted her show from there. They managed to get a guest into the flash studio and it looked totally ridiculous.

Vanity Fair did a very good piece on the narrative shift for CNN in the wake of the Ukraine invasion and the Zucker resignation

Yet once the war dies down CNN will go back to going on about Jan 6th and Trump.

That article is funny as it feels like its only just discovered that CNN has an international arm with a pool of international correspondents ,who lets be fair ,rarely got a look in on CNN US in the past 6 years or so.

Back when CNNI existed on weekends, French election would always get special coverage, usually fronted by Hala and Jim Bitterman. Nothing tonight. US Newsroom just can not be pre-empted. :oops:

I do hope Licht will care about CNN International and do some changes that will benefit it, it's a shame they didn't cover the French Elections, though they might be waiting for run-off, I'd hope. The Weekend International schedule should be fixed up or make CNN US cover more international news on weekends for the simulcast to make more sense.

Im a bit cynical. Instead of plowing resources into stabilizing CNNI....instead they plow money into CNN+. LIke everyone im hoping that Licht will do something for CNNi. Could it be the channel no longer gets significant viewership so many it no longer makes financial sense to spend as much on the channel. Because the channels resources seem to been reduced significantly. Its not the BBC with seemingly guaranteed money or Al-Jazeera backed by a nation. Most countries have their on 24hr news channels now. Who knows?
