The problem for me though, is that the lens doesn't appear spherical - it's a simple flat cut-out, which looks more like an eclipse than a lens. Adding some more sophisticated effects, like a bit of distortion within the circle, maybe some light reflecting off it, would have given a more spherical, lens-like effect. As it is, it looks rather plain and basic to me.

So, I also think there’s a lot of thought involved in creating new idents which have hints of previous idents on the channel. Perhaps the skateboarders and ravers are also deliberate.
I mentioned above the BBC Choice-esque idents on BBC THREE... With the launch of these idents on BBC ONE, I’d say there’s an intentional effort to celebrate the BBC’s history in the new presentation. Another element of sophistication.
It certainly fits with BBC 100 Years theme, and also reflecting the corporation-wide rebrand that began last year as part of its centenary.
Really don’t get people saying ‘but it doesn’t look like a lens’. Isn’t that just a term that originated here? In any case, it can be whatever they want it to be. It’s not like it’s labelled ‘lens’ on screen.

The Lens itself may or may not look better if it was glass like and on screen longer, but we won't actually know that since it isn't! I like the new idents. They are modern and intricate whilst giving BBC ONE a long overdue symbol. The Lens is a good idea since BBC One is our lens on the world.
The way that BBC One has refreshed reminds me a bit of how BBC News refreshed in 2008.
The new BBC One lens idents are the natural successors of the Circles with Oneness in between. BBC News' current titles (now 14 years old) were the natural successors of the 1999 titles, with the clamshell titles in between. Of course it helped that Lambie Nairn produced both the 1999 and 2008 titles.

Indeed - I've seen a few comments wishing they were more like the BBC HD idents, which were fun and perfect for the kind of channel it was at the time where each programme would feel like an event, but I feel something like that would be a bit too "in-your-face" for BBC One. I think a bit "in-your-face" is exactly what BBC1 actually needed. However we'd probably tire of them quicker. These may not be that impressive on launch but being so inoffensive and insignificant means they won't really age.

The clamshell looked ace though and LN returning to the 1999 concept was pretty lazy and tired.
These at least have a new concept, even if it does revisit the circle them which in one way or another has been there for most of the channels history. Indeed even with Oneness it was still there in the sting animations and the way Oneness animated on and off - just far more subtle than previously.
As underwhelmed as I might be at the moment I do think it is a really solid idea to build upon and hopefully as and when additions appear the will just get better and better.

I'm finding them a bit too "clever", quite honestly. I understand the cutout effect from reading here, but it's too small and too brief in all, and too subtle in many. Visually they're busy and complex.
They are also, so far, extremely urban and middle-class. They don't speak to me at all. They don't even say "Britain", which Oneness at least did, in spades. There's no geography, which even Circles had.

I think it sounds like Northern Irish announcer like David Johnson who often say it. Nevertheless, it is so weird to see a CA who doing pre-1993 mention of the channel.

I find they're actually very clever, and not in your face is perfect for BBC One.
The realization of them might be a bit boring in appearance, but the concept is VERY VERY versatile and simple at the same time.
