BBC World News / BBC Four News: A question
#1
Given where the BBC News Nostalgia thread is and with this being a solo question. I thought I'd ask it separately to that thread.

From watching various videos on YouTube of the programme. I have a question, how did the top of the programme sting, headlines and titles work? Because I have been wracking my brain on how the sequencing for Nottinghamshire could work. Especially with that sting that has the separate "BBC World News" and "BBC Four News" title for each channel.

Any information would be appreciated.

I took a look at some videos on YouTube. It seems the only time BBC Four News was mentioned was the initial pre-title/headline sequence. So I wonder if it was perhaps played out by BBC Four presentation and then opting in to BBC World for the start of the headlines?

I think (and this is going back some time here!). BBC World Presentation played the world version of the sting, while N9 branded the show BBC Four News direct to NC4. I don’t know how it worked when Red Bee moved to the Broadcast Centre.

On the very first edition of "BBC Four News", the sound of the ident was heard to continue over the first sting which has always lead me to believe that it was BBC Four who added their custom branding in pres rather than just a simple switch to N9's output.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Ahhhhhhh. George Alagiah and Brian Hanrahan! The good old days. Pre Nik Gowing, Zeinab Badawi and Kirsty Lang. (It had already been renamed to World News Today for Zeinab).

I much preferred the orange marque over the green version.
<t>I taught them everything......</t>

This is consistent with what I remember seeing at the time. I sat in the N9 control room while an edition went out in 2003. I seem to recall World Pres played out the World version of the opening sprinkle (no idea why it was called that, but it was! TWT's opener was known as the twinkle!) while N9 did the BBC4 branded version.

What was it actually branded as on BBC World? I know it was listed as simply BBC News, but so was The World Today.

If I remember correctly, the opening sting was branded BBC World.
