The ITV Weekend News specials over the last two weekends between 7 and 9:30 have been very well put together and emotional as well.

I know this has been done because of the terrible events in Ukraine but I do think it would be good for a weekend News programme on ITV going forward.

They've also been aired on social media. I'm aware that YouTube and TikTok have both carried these special programmes on their platforms.

Inevitably this is going to bring up the oft-repeated idea of weekend editions of Good Morning Britain, and whether a 5 minute summary at 8.25am is going to be enough going forward.

I get the feeling that maybe the morning bulletin will be extended on a regular basis. Maybe being followed by a special Sunday morning programme on Sundays only. I can't see them doing much more than that. But I would love to be proved wrong.

The way I see it, the Sunday morning programme would air after Match Of The Day had taken over on BBC1, so in a way, not directly. In the same way that the old Sunday morning news slots on TV-am went out on a Sunday morning from 8am, so not direct competition with Breakfast on BBC1 except during the off-season.

I just think that ITV should reopen it's news channel

ITV News Channel closed down due to severe budget problems, it was not making any money to keep it going, and then ITV News Channel lost 12 hours per day of broadcasting on Freeview due to channel constraints.

I sincerely doubt ITV News would ever relaunch their rolling news channel. Especially considering the launch of GB News and the soon to be launched Talk TV channel.

ITV News should do more news on ITV, expand their content (which they are starting to do with the extended Evening News from tomorrow) but I believe in a better weekend morning news service than just wall to wall cartoons followed by a blink and miss it news summary.

ITV News have shown just how good they are, with the party gate scandal and then now their superb coverage of the Ukraine war, in my opinion ITV News has excelled in their war coverage, and are much better than BBC or Sky.

I’m almost surprised ITV News hasn’t launched a streaming channel, like the US networks (CBSN - now simply CBS News, NBC News Now and ABC News Live). Maybe just a soft-launch, I believe NBCNN was just a few hours to start with and has since expanded to much of the day. I assume market research has suggested it would not be profitable, and as always UK/US markets are not always compatible, but it seems like if something like that we’re to develop in the UK, it would be good to get your foot in the door first.

They seem to have gone more down the podcasting route, some of which are uploaded as video content too.

As much as it can be said the ITV News Channel is missed in situations like we face now, not having it is also it's strength too. It means they can focus on good old fashioned reporting and don't have to worry about reporters being available throughout the day for live updates, instead concentrating on the reporting package.
