BBC1 HD showing the one about cold water swimming - think that was the North East & Cumbria. Not quite sure why that region gets one exclusively to themselves whilst the others are all merged. Are the regions fixed or can there be a bit of flexibility to adjust from show to show as best fits?

As has been mentioned, BBC East also has its own programme.

I'm watching the Bristol edition, via BBC One West SD on Sky.

I presume that the utterly generic wording of the CA was identical for all (macro)-regions. It was the Exmouth lifeguards ident. I wonder whether a geographically appropriate ident was used for each (macro)-region.

I've just checked out the start of the Birmingham edition, which I Sky+ed from BBC One W Mids SD.

It used the Smethwick allotments idents, which seems to support the notion of region-approriate idents being used. It did indeed have the exact same generic CA as preceded the Bristol edition.

Meanwhile, BBC One HD used the ident featuring cyclists in the well-known English city of Belfast. ?

The CA was the same sort of HD-specific wording previously used for Inside Out, explaining which region's version was being shown this week and that you need to switch over to see your local version.

I do genuinely fear an airing of the Sea Swimmers ident (or even the Avonmouth zumba class one), here in the West/SW/CI macro, one of these weeks. Please, no.

I think that that Exmouth lifeguards and Plymouth steel pan band are the only West Country ones that are still in use since the October changes. So, we've surely well-and-truly seen the last of the Moobs ident.

Unless it appears complete with old BBC One logo and squiggly "...ness" at the bottom. Which I wouldn't rule out from happening, as outdated branding turning up (especially in the regions) is hardly an unusual occurrence.

I saw the "north" version from BBC1 Yorkshire and the NE&C edition from HD. Wow, they were tough watches. Inside Out was never a "must watch" but it would often draw me in if I caught a bit of it. It had quite a bright, breezy and pacy style. This was very slow and pondering - certainly didn't feel very early-evening BBC1.

The West/SW edition felt like it could've been a human interest report of circa 2-3 minutes within Points West and/or Spotlight, that was painfully eked-out to 29 minutes of not-very-much happening.

So... apart from 4 out the 6 surviving editions now being macro-regional, each edition is seemingly spreading scant subject matter very thinly.

Inside Out was hardly "Civilisation", but the first episode of this new format seems like a shadow of what went before.

BBC One HD introduced the networked Mids/E Mids edition with the sausage dog walkers ident, filmed in the well-known midlands city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Indeed, the West Midlands version, which was also going out in the East Midlands.

Turns out there is serious questions surrounding the content, in which a bitcoin trader based in Birmingham supposedly turned £50 into Millions in a very short space of time.

The main issue is that a lot of people remain out of pocket as a result of this person's actions.

A bit of an error here by the BBC. It appears at first glance that research into the subject and background hasn't been sufficiently carried out.

Mids/E Mids viewers will now be getting the Leeds-produced edition, which is about a photographer.

So, if you thought that some of the macro-regions were already oversized... this programme will tonight be broadcast to viewers in places as far apart as Barrow-in-Furness and Northamptonshire!

It is also the Leeds edition which is being networked on BBC One HD (on platforms where it is not yet regionalised) this week.

I suspect that it would be standard practice to use whichever edition is already due to be networked on HD in a given week as the SD fall-back in the event of another (marco)-region's edition being pulled. Unless it was the edition originally planned for network HD which was having to be pulled, of course!

Whilst not always the best source the Daily Mail article on this latest pulled episode quotes a BBC spokesman saying...

The BBC said there were no plans to scrap the new show as overall it had been happy with the response to the series.

But it added that it was ‘looking carefully at how these editorial issues arose’ and had ‘moved to increase editorial support and supervision for the programme’.

I wonder if it's due to budget cuts or moving from regionally produced programmes to ones made by BBC England (or a combination of both) that these errors have occurred. Presumably the Inside Out productions had closer ties to the regional news teams, and were able to better research and fact check. Equally it may have helped Inside Out that they did three smaller pieces per programme, and were broadcast to a smaller audience who might not have spotted any issues.

Presumably the BBC are hoping to avoid any further slip ups and the need to pull episodes at the last minute. At least if such errors are spotted early there's a chance of shelving the episode to re-edit it, whilst not needing to publicly change the next advertised episode.
