Fastest Finger First

The winner will be fast tracked to sit in the “Millionaire” hot seat in front of Jeremy Clarkson, by-passing the usual Fastest Fingers First round that opens the show.

It sounds more like they’re being ‘slow tracked’. I do wonder if that means they’re get rid of the FFF round on the main show again, as it would be awkward to bring contestants into the show with others waiting to do a single round of FFF.

Depends on how long the programme is. If its only 30 mins, then it would just be a case of starting each episode with the FFF programme winner, then reverting to regular FFF after that. I don’t see there being much reason to ditch FFF on the main show tbh.

Yes, rereading the article I assume that would be the case, with those who didn’t make it through from the show continuing in the FFF positions.

Yes, fleshing out what is a 30-60 second process into a seperate 30-60 minute show sounds like an awful idea and if Fastest Finger First can't exist in it's own right as a show does it need to exist at all?

Also surely just going to alienate audiences of Millionaire who don't watch the spin-off (I assumed it was destined for daytime but perhaps not with this format) and also put off potential viewers who don't watch Millionaire. Feels like it is built around solving a problem that doesn't exist.


Good choice in host though - she did a good job on The Answer Trap.

Surely it’s going to affect the ‘repeatability’ of Millionaire relying on the continuity of the prior FFF programme to them then appearing on Millionaire.
Going to make it very jarring seeing contestants appearing in Millionaire on repeat airings either in ITV or Challenge without showing the relevant Fastest Finger First show before.

Seems like a minor detail that could be cut out of a repeat. People are watching for the gameplay regardless of how they got into the chair.

I agree with what others have said and this could make a really boring 30-60 minutes of TV. Also surely the prize is more than just being 'fast-tracked' to the seat on Millionaire where you could get the first question wrong and win absolutely nothing despite winning the other show? Don't see why they need to be linked at all really.

Solid choice of host in Anita Rani, she was great on Answer Trap (which deserves another series btw). Presumably Jeremy wouldn't commit to it as you'd want your host on both for the brand surely.

I'm presuming Jeremy is perhaps a bit too busy with his farm to commit to both shows (no idea when this new one will air or how many episodes they're planning)

Sounds like they'll perhaps just have one fast track contestant per Millionaire episode then the traditional fastest finger first for the remainder of the episode (curiously there doesn't seem to be a contestant call for this spin off yet, just a contestant call for the main series which is open until 18th February)

What could be overkill is 'Set to air in the slot before Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' - are people really going to stick around for 1hr30 - 2hrs each week?

Surprising the UK never tried the 50/50 show but I guess by the time it was developed Millionaire on ITV was basically just entirely celebrity editions anyway

FFF could exist in its own right but with Millionaire fresh in the minds of viewers, it would easily lead to calls of "that's FFF from Millionaire", whereas being a spin-off it can't be accused of ripping off another format. Also, with the tie-in, it'll have some brand recognition right away which may help it although I do think having the two shows side by side in the schedule is a bad move, but they probably don't want viewers to get tired waiting to see winners appearing on the parent show so that's why they're doing it this way.
