Or live presenting, for that matter. I think Marr had been presenting Start the Week on Radio 4 for a while before he got the Sunday morning gig which does go out live I think.

Just thinking a new programme would generally have a new set to set it apart from it's predecessor and the Sunday Morning slot is one of the few branded BBC News shows that could use the main network studio without potentially clashing with the main network bulletins. Also Sophie Raworth taking the role temporarily makes me wonder if they do have someone lined up but are waiting for the new studio to be ready before launching their show.

Sure: the studio could tie in well, but I can't see the stars aligning on this one. That said, I will also defend the little set-up they have now. For a programme based around interviews, I rather think the set works well. I used to find Studio B a bit cavernous (the long walk between the desk and the soft set area was always just that little bit too long).

Maybe in the past a new show would get a new set, but these days it's pretty much a change of lighting at best with the BBC. The only thing on the current Marr set that is unique to Marr are the much-hated sofa covers. Also the new set-up or set in Studio B is supposedly 'fixed' (a la N6/Studio E) rather than 'flexible' (as per TC7/Studio B), so I doubt there will be the ability to bring in sofas etc. While they did ditch the sofa segments in Studio E, that was by necessity rather than choice. As I imagine the successor show will be of a similar format, I think 54D is probably better suited to the format than the new nationals set.

Looking at the montage they've just shown, the Andrew Marr Show has had a pretty impressive guest list over the years. Whoever succeeds him (post Sophie Raworth as a temporary stand-in) has a tough act to follow.
I liked David Tennant's praise of Andrew Marr at the end of his interview.

The problem with the name Sunday Morning is that it time limits them with finding a permanent presenter. Sunday Morning Live usually starts early-/mid-June and I doubt you can have the two shows on at the same time! But then that's the BBC's problem with just giving every new live programme the most generic name possible.

Rather than creating a temporary 'Sunday Morning' programme, they should just have a usual BBC News 9am bulletin, simulcast on the News Channel, on a Sunday morning, with a newspaper review and one or two interviewees, like they normally do when the Andrew Marr Show used to go off air for the summer - until a permanent replacement can be found.
