It devalues the rest of the BBC in thinking that ‘the BBC’ is just its television service. Especially when there’s much criticism with the value of the licence fee - it would have been better to reference it as ‘BBC Television’ to separate it from its radio and online counterparts. It leaves you to question what actually is ‘the BBC’.

And also the awful barely legible sombre ITV ident. That was slightly baffling. Especially as everyone’s favourite announcer starting announcing over it on Saturday morning, but I think he actually didn’t do too bad reflecting the serious tone.

Yeah, that was odd. I guess they thought "BBC Television" sounded too formal and awkward, never find the old "BBC Television from London" that was the plan for years. It doesn't sound so bad in this clip from '97, mind, while Friday's treatment looked and sounded a little eerie.

Maybe I'm weird but I turned off all news notifications years ago, they sort of made me anxious. So the first I hear of major news events was usually by logging onto TVF (and now here). But this time I saw a tweet from the PA, the news had already broke on BBC Two/News but was a few minutes away from interrupting BBC One and ITV.

Still think the fa cup semi final should play at 530 as he ll be buried by then and the elf 3 pm games should be played then as well. The snooker can start in the evening and the Scottish grand national on Sunday. He wouldn’t have wanted all the sports to completely change their schedules and this would show respect but also not mess around with schedules too much. Btw controversial but the bbc got it wrong on Friday, hopefully the funeral doesn’t need 12 hours coverage on all bbc channels because that would be stupid and disproportionate and would just be sucking up to the government. P.S why this debate about why it wasn’t said that this was bbc television from London does that really matter. It’s called nit picking. The queens death will see Netflix be busy for about a month as an alternative to over done tv coverage

After the initial scripted announcement, what would they do next? You presumably can’t just have people ad-libbing, most presenters are used to nothing more than a bulletin lasting 3 minutes with two 15 min bulletins per day that are generally really tightly packed.
I can completely understand the need to take over coverage with a single programme until all the facts are established. Turns out this event was all fairly straightforward but who knows? There could've been a more instant statement/reaction from other members of the Royal Family, Prince Charles might've made comment, Harry might've released a statement, other important world leaders may have made comment. Perhaps unlikely, but it's important those things that happen immediately after the news aren't missed and I imagine lots of people doing their own thing just increases the risk of mistakes.

I've said already I thought the Newsbeat special at 16:00 was well pitched at the audience. I wonder if the challenges of working from home etc. meant this might've been put on an hour or so later than might normally be expected. Who knows? It's really all quite trivial and I don't think the audience were particularly underserved by missing an hour or two of anthems or Matt & Mollie - the simple fact is that the Sounds app is stuffed with this sort of normal music/content.

I'm on Andover Radio every Saturday afternoon from 4pm-6pm. Follow me on Twitter.
All tv channels should continue more or less as planned now fulfilling the displaced programmes instead of the repeats that are listed and instead of any deemed as inappropriate until next Saturday then you do the funeral on bbc 1 and itv - longer bulletins on ch 4 and ch5 and stop in time for the football at 530 as scheduled as he ll be done by then
What programmes have been displaced in the schedules?

I know BBC Two pushed back the BAFTA Opening Night by an hour to fit in Great British Menu and Gardener's World from Friday, and showed the film Emma in place of a documentary on Tupac Shakur.
Richard Osman's House of Games has been rescheduled for today at 17:30.
BBC One has pulled the rugby league documentary Once Were Lions tonight and will show Friday's MOTDx after MOTD2.

As the TOTP episodes on BBC Four weren't shown on Friday, their repeats last night were pulled too.
Can't have been as bad as this, surely?

BBC Parliament seems to have been the rough side TV wise. All the other channels faded to black. It was also late and crashed into the national anthem.

Have I got news for you should happen as should the news quiz cause that’s abit stupid if they don’t
Very interesting to see the split in opinion; overkill vs appropriate.

Does the forum have a poll function? I'd be interested to see, at a high level, what the overall feeling is/was regarding the coverage.
P. S The bbc family logo looks better than itvs black on grey, channel 4s black blocks and channel 5 black 5. Also interesting that somebody did eventually update nightscreen after 4 hours to the correct information

HIGNFY will be shown as the extended repeat as planned on Monday at 22:00 on BBC Two.
The News Quiz isn't on Radio 4 at the moment and The Now Show which is normally in that slot went out on it's usual Saturday lunchtime repeat slot.
Both were recorded on Thursday.

Considering that there seems to be several shades of opinion here on a complex issue that isn’t black and white, and that most here having a decent discussion, I’m not sure what that would achieve apart from more arguments.

My thoughts were that polls are usually anonymous, so if you voted one of say four options, it would only show how many other voters feel the same.

If people want to argue about numbers in four boxes, then I think there's a different issue at hand  ! I was just looking to see if there was a way to see how many thought it was overkill, how many thought it was fine, how many thought it could've been handled better etc
