How Did they Get Away with 'That'?

Ever watched a show and thought 'Woah, I didn't think you could say that at this time of the day'? You probably have, and I know I certainly have in the past. What are some of your favourite risque or controversial TV moments? These can be live, pre-recorded. As long as they have a context (such as airing pre-watershed, or on children's TV) which makes the viewer think 'How did they get away with that?'

For example, Dick and Dom's constant (and hilarious) innuendo and the unpredictable nature of precocious children on a sugar rush does make one think they are trying to get taken off the air.

I've been rewatching The Thin Blue Line on iplayer recently. It's a triumph that the line, "Your cock up, my arse", got broadcast at 8.30pm on BBC One!?

"No one fancied a shag" - Craig Charles on Moneybags.

Of course there's been a lot of (regular) Countdown filth, too.

I laugh at the one where the first 4 letters spell "fart", and Richard and Carol talk about how they've waited 19 years for it and insist it stays in, Admittedly far from the most obscene they've allowed to go out on air, but that one strikes a particular funny bone.

My absolute favourite, from a show that got away with SO much week in week out...

I still don't know how they got away with that one.

Rewatching Fort Boyard as an adult certainly makes you notice quite a bit of innuendo, particulary with many of the professor riddle clues!

It always surprised me how Ren & Stimpy got away with being aired on Nickelodeon of all places.

In 1999/2000 Denise Van Outen presented a show for Channel 4 called "Something For The Weekend" (which gives you some idea). It preempted "Naked Attraction" by about 20 years by showing flaccid genitalia.

I remember a short-lived primetime Saturday night show on ITV called Slap Bang, presented by Ant and Dec (pre Takeaway) which aired around 20 years ago. They had a scripted Cheers spoof (called Beers).

One week, the actress Claire Goose was a guest star on one of these. She was tasting some wine, then spat it out.

Dec turned to camera and said- "Well, that's answered one of MY questions!!"

For me I've always felt that this programme was inappropriate and unsuitable for a CBBC audience and that it should never have been commissioned, CBBC should've sticked to a regular Saturday morning live magazine show title such as Live & Kicking or The Saturday Show. No wonder Dick and Dom In Da Bungalow for axed in 2006 because of the criticism from parents and the House of Commons which was very serious.
