Andrew Marr to leave the BBC

That would be my guess, and probably as part of a "revitalised" / reformatted Sunday morning show looking to skew younger than Andrew Marr's version. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a schedule change to support that aim. And, if this came to pass, I would be even less surprised to see the traditional BBC Sunday morning political programme re-invented a few years thereafter.

Laura is a similar age to when Andrew Marr took over from David Frost which is why I think she's probably the most likely candidate.

It's really not an exodus at all.

The thing about that slot is it requires someone who’s more than just a hard-nosed political interviewer.

Aside from the political stuff, there’s the arts element to the show, and on a Sunday morning, a certain amount of warmth is required. Frost and Marr were both good all-rounders in this respect.

Whilst Laura Keunssberg is a good political interviewer, I personally think she might be a bit too cold for this programme. Sopel would be a good fit, although I suspect there will be pressure to choose someone who isn’t a white man.

I’m sure Sophie Raworth’s name had been touted in the past as a possible successor, which might not be a bad shout - although she’s not really renowned as an interviewer.

For my money, I’d love to see Emily Maitliss get the job.

I doubt they'd get rid of it, it does very well ratings wise and is part of their current affairs quota.

There's now only one question: Where does he go in the schedules of the stations? Possibly there could be someone leaving to give room for him. We just don't know yet.

Although the Global deal is 'exclusive', I assume Marr will be allowed to do TV projects for other broadcasters.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if BBC Scotland’s ‘The Sunday show’ with Martin Geissler got networked. It’ll be interesting to see what they do as 16 years is a long time
