Meanwhile for me I feel that if it isn't Huw Edwards on the BBC it doesn't feel like the A-team, I think perhaps because the likes of Reeta, Sophie and Clive just hop around the schedule as required and don't really have ownership of any slot or bulletin - though maybe that's just the practicality of having a news channel to consider rather than just 3 bulletins a day.

BBC One has finally, at last, joined BBC News at 00:34. As if it hasn't been with BBC News for much of the last day...
BBC Scotland went to bed seconds into the Family ident, before the BBC One announcer took BBC One back to the News Channel until Breakfast. BBC Two appears to be with BBC News until 06:45, although I imagine that is the first 45 minutes of the Breakfast programme on BBC News. There is no sombre ident up to 01:00. We got around 82 seconds of an ordinary TOTH, but not to worry as no-one will be watching just before 1am. Christian Fraser staying on air.

Not sure if it's been mentioned previously but the late edition Points West had a Breakfast style clock added to its astons.

Noticed that they are putting The Masters highlights that was scheduled for BBC2 at 1250am , after Battlestar Galactica , out on the red button

Of course that aspect is also why the BBC have even more depth than ITV - something made clear from the very start today, with a much more experienced reporter in place for the announcement itself. But it's really thinly spread and behind a clear 'number 1' in Huw - a role that became still more obviously his once he took over the GE role from David Dimbleby. (I presume one of those two get the funeral.) Tom might be the vague 'number 1' for ITV - again illustrated by him having election duties - but it's not as obvious, because ITV ultimately have a core 'big three' (that even includes someone with royal death experience!) and the BBC's depth doesn't work the same way. The virtual studio absolutely came into its own though as you say, as did the BBC one in 1997 when it was set to the dark setting used for the Nine throughout - although that obviously didn't have the flexibility we saw from ITN's today.

I had Sky and BBC World on the minute I heard the news. I thought Martine did an excellent job – always smooth in any situation. Too bad she wasn't on longer, though I suppose it made sense to bring Huw in.

6am - Sky News Breakfast with Gillian Joseph (From Windsor) 10am - Sky News Live from Windsor with Sarah Hewson 3pm - Sky News Live from Windsor with Isabel Webster 7pm - Sky News with Jonathan Samuels Scheduled beyond 8pm (expect for the documentary at 9pm) doesn’t appear to be updated yet. I was a little surprised Anna Botting didn’t continue into the midnight hour since she only started at 10pm, but Sam Naz has done a great job. |
