Is it just me, or have ITV corrected their sombre ident? I saw it again at 9pm and the ITV logo was much more legible with a grey background. I can't be certain as I'm watching on a different TV than earlier this evening, so it could just be the contrast/brightness settings.

In other news, I have just watched back a recording of BBC North West Tonight and they used the special BBC News sombre music that has been used on the national coverage today. They started with a short version and ended with the full montage at the end as seen during presenter changeovers today.

World showed Clive Myrie and couldn’t get rid of the flipper it’s almost like it’s got a mind of it’s own that flipper.

I've no complaint with the wall-to-wall cross channel service, on the day of the announcement and indeed for the funeral of the spouse of The Head of State. His demise really is historic and deserves such coverage. There's a good argument for some continuation of some cross channel activity daily between the two events too.

I don't think people have issues with BBC One and ITV showing wall to wall coverage but I think that they should have let BBC Two and BBC Four continue airing their evening programmes.

TBH Chris, in any other time I'd agree with you. But we are in this very unusual situation where the public has had a torrid 13 months; it's Friday night and you can't just bugger off to the pub for an escape. By not providing an alternative in this unusual time, those members of the public already fed up with 13 months of depression and negativity have nowhere to go. Which is why I firmly believe Four should have set up an alternative lineup tonight. I'm a hardcore royalist, but I'm not up for watching this all night. I'd rather go to bed!

Today has shown how well prepared, rehearsed and talented newsrooms are. For directors, editors, presenters and correspondents today will be a difficult day as a result of the immense pressure and pace of reporting news.

And at the end of the day, however the BBC, ITV or Sky decide to cover it, somebody somewhere will be unhappy.

Today will be a lesson, the proceeding weeks will be a lesson, on how in the modern world of fast news, twitter, and constant criticism of journalism day and night fairs with the death of a senior Royal figure. And with the intent to avoid argument over opinions on the importance and perception of the Royal Family, there are people who feel a heartfelt connection with, and others who feel a strong disliking to the family, therefore causing arguments over television coverage and whether it was too little or too much.

However you feel about the decisions made over the extend of the coverage, I think we all as people who are intrigued by television presentation and/or news coverage respect and understand the talent who produce the work and the careful preparation put into it.
