Must admit they could be quite nice going on this!

(and no, I haven’t got the above from Metropol - realistic though they are - I’ve drawn them with my pen and uploaded them there!)

Are you planning to revive Play School?

My guess on Three would be the Tricon or II! symbol

Well my guess is that the One circle may split the screen up - maybe a different picture in the circle than outside, similar to Two’s curve and Four’s quadrants. The current ||! wouldn’t do that.
Of course, reserve full judgement til it airs, but it’s not filling me with enormous hope really. Can we not come up with some more original ideas than those from 16 years ago? Imagine if in 1997 BBC One relaunched with a mirror globe.
Looks to me like it’ll be 1 segment for BBC One, 2 for BBC Two, 3 for BBC Three and 4 for BBC Four. Not too dissimilar to what it is now apart from Oneness of course!
I have no problem with them using a circle for BBC One. It still harks back to the globe, as the whole circles ident sequences were intended to do.

Anything is better than 'Oneness', even a static card stating 'BBC Television Service'.

I rate them 7/10.
Thanks for this. Sounds promising! Out of interest, for comparison’s sake, what would you score the current oneness package (out of ten)?

Oneness is 2/10 for me.

I wouldn't even give Oneness a ranking - it's that bad.

The premise of the new look is nice, however I feel the idents are lacking in the energy and excitement that you get from BBC2's idents. The visual side of the idents are lovely and flow really well - however they still remind me of Oneness and can feel quite slow. The new look will launch with 5 idents, however there are 3 variations of each - so 15 in total. It's a nice change, nothing extraordinary - just nice.

Hmm, doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest if they remind you of Oneness, especially if there are only 5 (I don't count variations). I wish they'd do what BBC2 did and launch with more than 10.

Guessing there's no globe return then either. And I guess you can't say if they're live action or CGI, or a bit of both?

Maybe a wee bit of both ;-)
Such a tease Big Grin

I'll take a 5 point increase on the idents though. And even if they are still a bit 'Oneness' style slow, hopefully there's enough scope in the theme to fix that in future versions.

Hopefully they've learnt - no wobbly camerawork, make the music appropriate for the announcer to speak over, and ditch pointless slogans!

Fingers crossed the BBC Four split is still cleverly done, not just zooming out each segment at different positions.

Well, pure live action has given us Oneness, plus the really bland era of "things happening with a logo slapped on top of it" (BBC1's balloon notwithstanding).

Hmm...still sceptical I'm afraid. I know you can't say any more but I understand. I just don't want to hype myself up too much really.

Can I just say I love Asa’s special TVF icon! ??
So the date is definitely the 20th/21st October?

Like this? More like clock ident for me, which was integral part of BBC1 Virtual/Mirror/COW Globe ident at the time.

As much as I'd love a new clock, which would really be better than a normal ident for serious news items, I think I have to accept that it's probably not practical to have any more. Unless they can do something quite radical with it like Channel 4 did with their blocks clock (even if it looked quite hard to make out the "hands" and the time itself), it won't return.
Would it not be a smoother run into the news for the regions who take control for continuity to announce the news to run a regional countdown so lines flying around the region, regional reporters etc with the lines joining together to goto NBH. Would make for a more slick dramatic run into the news don’t ya think

I much preferred it when an official voice just said, as the clock ticked its last few seconds to the hour: “THIS is BBC1!” and they had cool titles and read the news. None of this disjointed opting nonsense.

The regional news was a separate, less important programme and followed the main news after the weather.

Better days.
