Not really surprising but Netflix's share prices have gone up in the same point the news broke out.

Apologies, my bad. Still though, wouldn't be surprised if streaming services are now seeing their viewership go up, especially since viewers are now just hearing about it and are flicking to on-demand services where programming is always on regardless of the event.

Channel 4 are getting some slack on Twitter for moving away so quickly from the news. Rightly so in my optinion.

I think that Channel 4 is doing the right thing in moving away so quickly, people will certainly need some breathing space from this rolling news coverage, now I was not born yet, but when Princess Diana died back in 1997, Channel 4 went into breaking news or not?

Channel 4's evening bulletin doesn't usually cover royal news in-depth does it? So it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't have rolling coverage for hours like the other channels.

I was only a child at the time. I am not saying channel four should go all day with rolling coverage, however two or three hours would be more respectful given the significance of the event in the country.

They had news reports after each programme as I recall, and an extended Channel 4 News.

Interesting to see BBC News handle the continuity announcement and slide. I wonder if that was always the plan or a means of simplifying things during Covid? It took a little burden off Presentation I guess. Nice to see a more suitable and sombre slide for the occasion too. A shame the lower thirds/backdrop weren't changed but understandable in current circumstances.

Nice to see Mary do the coverage for ITV, probably a lot more confident than 19 years ago. Well handled by the This Morning team too, even had time for a wideshot.

A little surprised too about Radio 1. I'd have thought that out of any network, they'd have been allowed a bespoke programme. I guess there's less risk of anything unsuitable or dubious happening if everyone is broadcasting the same thing. Surely they'll be allowed to breakaway at some point and stick on some Sabres of Paradise.

It certainly sounds like there was little knowledge ahead of the 12pm announcement - someone should have checked Gibbo's WhatsApp.

And who'd have thought a major royal's death would ever be first announced on BBC Two rather than BBC One!

Depends on if you consider just having a graphic as breaking the news? C5 went to a Prince Philip documentary at 12:15 when there would usually be news, with a caption over the top. C4 went to live news coverage at 12:30. So C5 technically broke the news to their viewers first but their live news coverage didn't go on air until after C4.
