I'm pretty certain it's a version that was performed by massed bands for the ITN-produced Queen's Christmas Message in 2016, minus the initial drum roll:

Just a note on the coverage, I think the BBC and ITV have got it spot-on today. Both Martine and Lucrezia did a very good job and the whole thing was handled impressively well considering they had no advance warning. A real credit to the professionalism of our national broadcasters and showing the world how it's done.

In terms of cancelling TV programmes, well, you can't please everyone. Regardless of political persuasion, this is the death of the husband of the Head of State and does deserve proper extended coverage in my view. The broadcasters would get criticised whichever way they went and they should really just press ahead, do what they think best and ignore any complaints. At the end of the day, it's not like there's nothing else to do with your time in 2021 except watch TV.

Just to say as well, Mary Nightingale continues to impress as always. What a fantastic and under-appreciated broadcaster she is. Mary is getting this coverage absolutely spot-on and it seems effortless. A real credit to ITV News.

Surely they can’t just have rolling news on all the BBC channels, I think the football being live means it’s unlikely to be cancelled so I could see BBC Four airing its normal schedule.

I think BBC Four will be acting as a 'catch-all' channel for the next few days, trying to put on a normal service for those who want normal programmes, and probably being the overflow from BBC One and BBC Two

Surely there is nothing more that can be reported? There’s only so much they can cover about the Duke and most of that will be covered today.

Both BBC One and Two are going with rolling coverage for the rest of the day, probably with them both simulcasting World overnight. It means (if we include Breakfast) there will be news coverage on BBC One for just over 22 hours (just after 12:00 today until 10:00 tomorrow)

Twitter is absolutely loving Martine Croxall for her delivery of this incredibly sad event. Several news articles up already about how well handled it was. A few commenting on how quickly she adjusted her wardrobe, removal of necklace etc.. There really are some beady eyed peeps out there.

On this incredibly sad day, it's wonderful to see Martine Croxall receive such well deserved praise.

She did fantastically well on such short notice, and you can tell with how she was glancing up and down that she was reading the statement from Buckingham Palace off of the computer inside the news desk.

There is always an argument of whether they should or shouldn't clear the schedules in these times - damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think it is a mistake not to offer an alternative on BBC2 later in the day at least. I did think ITV might break for 90 minutes to show the soaps, but seems they're not.

I do think C4 are right to suspend the final of The Circle (and Gogglebox). I've been looking forward to that all week but don't think I'd enjoy it as much if it aired tonight.


P.S. S4C went to Newyddion at 12.45pm. Looks like they've shown a documentary and now showing their live afternoon show with tributes to him.

Yeah, me and the family switched to BBC Two when I just told them the news I spotted on Twitter and I instantly noticed her quick change of outfit. Fair play to Martine for having to deal with this tragedy with such great delivery. She should be proud for how she handled herself today cos being a newsreader isn't all that easy, to be fair.

I can imagine how everyone at BBC News and ITV News are feeling right now with this sad news. Wonder how the regions will handle this news later?

Channel 4 are getting some slack on Twitter for moving away so quickly from the news. Rightly so in my optinion.
